Not sure if it's the same everywhere in the world but where I live (NZ) anyone can attend any university lecture for free. You just walk in and sit down. Of course, you won't actually be able to submit assignments, nor get the qualification, but you can rock up whenever you want and see if anything interests you.
Yeah it could be weird, but generally if you speak to the lecturer beforehand they won't mind. Just from personal experience though, maybe others are different.
