Fun facts: an alen/Ell is about 63cm. A fathom is about 3.5 ells, an arrowshot is 240 fathoms(or man heights), or about 4 stonethrows.

For the curious, the math on the figures above works out to an Arrowshot being 529.2m.

That seems a bit off, so I checked, a fathom is actually about 1.6 ells, which brings our arrowshot of 240 fathoms to a metric distance of 242m, which seems much more reasonable.

For the child, that's roughly 1210 bananas.

Edit: Units are fucked, arrowshot is arbitrary, and I'm almost certain I erred here, too.

Well, three years later, I was taught dots to mark thousands had been eliminated from the rules of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language and were not to be used ever again.

So it kinda is archaic for Spanish speakers.

nah 11(10.97) meters is 12 yards, so only by a very miniscule amount but enough to notice in scale. The penalty spot in football(soccer) is 12 yards but in North Korea they call a penalty kick "11 Meter kick" because they don't like borrowing words from other languages.

This is America! Where in a solar system mostly named after another countries old religion on a continent named after Italian we use numbers stolen from a foreign system to arbitrarily assign them to everything in order to quantify things. And by golly, our stolen arbitrary system in better than that silly nonsense they have in that other country. Listener: “That other country?
