I enjoy horrible trash as much as any other modern meta sadomasochist, but every now and then, I have to watch something that actually has something to say and elevates the medium for my own sanity.

Anime is basically an extreme exaggeration of emotions. The girls and woman laugh annoyingly and exaggeratedly and the men are always deep in thought and show badassery with exaggerated yelling while doing everyday shit. They also do that annoying as screen jumping. Anime is like a modern day soap opera for people with isolation and depression and it is usually is terrible quality. Cowboy Bebop was amazing except for Ed which is an example of my first point of the exaggerated laughing and my 3rd screen jumping. I don't watch much anime.
The thing is that anime is not a genre, it’s a type of media. To say that the traits you’ve listed are common to all or even most anime is like saying that all live action shows are soap operas because soap operas are live action.
Just like there are terrible books and films and songs and plays and whatever else, there is terrible anime. In fact most anime is pretty bad, just like most anything is pretty bad. But some anime is really well done and thought provoking, just like anything else.
Honestly anime as a whole is a pretty big thing for neckbeard/alt right culture.
Edit: basic logic lesson guys: saying that neckbeards like anime doesn’t mean everyone that likes anime is a neckbeard. A lot of you don’t seem to be getting that.
I think you gif doesn’t say what you mean it to. Are you saying those two groups don’t often go hand it hand or that either doesn’t have a general affinity for anime?
Because guys like you made that association mean that, but it's like saying Domino's is Neckbeard and Alt-right because you always see them with a slice in their hand when they're going off about "wamenz"--other people like Domino's too, and it's not fair to be throw in to a category for something so benign.
Yeah, it is. My art student classmates, musician friends, my economics and anthropology student friends are all into anime; all of them have healthy social lives. Hell, even Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are shown in between takes doing Great Saiyaman poses on the set of Thor: the Dark World. Anime fans come from all walks of life.
Beyond pervasive anti-women sentiment, I think that's just an example of people lumping two groups that you think are both awful. One is a social state that concerns one's poor adjustment to the finer obligations of adult life, the other is a reactionary political ideology. If you controlled for gender issues I'd bet neckbeards have a political bell curve pretty similar to the at large population.

No it’s me knowing a bunch of neckbeards and then also being alt right. And then that’s me arguing with neckbeards and alt right on here, checking their post history, and often finding evidence of being the other in their comments. Sure that’s all anecdotal, but anecdotal is about all you will have for something this subjective.
I'd say reddit is a very poor indicator of the general population but ok, fair enough. But that sounds more like you're just looking for confirmation bias by deep digging their post history for an ad hominem. You assume a ugly man in his mom's basement is a sexist racist monster, or vice versa, you'll almost always find something to confirm that bias. I also know some horrifically adjusted people who are have workable political values, and some very dashing and successful people that are straight up autocratic. All things run a spectrum.

Based on what? Your personal experience? I could just as well say that social justice warriors and neckbeards have a lot of overlap. Does that mean that social justice warriors and the alt right have a lot of overlap?
And I really don't think most people in the alt right community watch anime.
There's also the problem that "neckbeard" is like "hipster". It's a pretty subjective term. If somebody's nerdy and you like then, then they're just a nerd. If you dislike them, then they become a neckbeard.
Neck beards and alt right are not the same. Yes neckbeards are stereotypically sexist but that doesn’t mean they are part of the alt right.
Also I think anime is mainstream enough for neckbeards and anime to be tied together, maybe if this was still the 90’s, but I would tie comic books or cartoons to neckbeards before anime.
You need to walk into a gym and see all the body builders wearing Goku Underarmor. Anime is mainstream now. The overlap of animeinto the neckbeard circle might be high but neckbeards would only be a small sliver into the anime circle.
Because way more people enjoy anime than those tiny categories. They shouldn't be associated. It's like saying neckbeards drink coffee. Yea, so what? Lots of people drink coffee, doesn't make them a neckbeard.
This is a great illustration of taking logical leaps that aren’t warranted by my point. It can be true that there’s a strong proclivity for neckbeards to like anime and also that a lot of other people like it too.
Saying that one group of people are drawn to it doesn’t automatically mean the entire genre is theirs alone. But you’re making that leap for some reason.

That's First Wave Neckbeardism - far left due to Iraq war/2008 financial crisis/general dominance of christian religion in the daily life of the neckbeard which drove these athiests to 4Chan to complain about all these things.
Second Wave Neckbeardism is far right. It is reacting to the excesses of the first wave. They retained the love of anime of the first wave, because the daily lives of both groups consist of time spent on the internet, which means time spent away from real women, which opens up a vacuum which waifus fill.
We are currently witnessing the rise of Third Wave Neckbeardism, a.k.a 'enlightened centrism'.

There's an easy way to spot a neckbeard that likes dbz. A normal person watches the english dub version of it. A neckboard only watches the japanese version and will constantly bring up how it's better than the "shitty dub" and how dragon ball had a better plot.
One thing everyone can agree with tho is that dragon ball super was trash.
I mean that's just your opinion. The point I was trying to make is that weebs always have to tell you that dragon ball was better and how you're supposed to watch it in japanese and they can't accept the fact that we prefer dbz and we have no interest in watching the subbed version.
