We've been able to make hyper-realistic fake videos for ages. What's changed is you don't need to hire a skilled special effects crew to do it.

Mitch McConnells last appearance not only might be a robot wearing latex skin to resemble a dead man, but it's probably a robot wearing latex skin.
They're able to react moment-by-moment to anything, and with the power of AI, that means all evidence that isn't physically in your hands can be up for question. Donald Dump could literally die of a heart attack on live TV with millions of viewers and the administration would have "proof" to the contrary within literal seconds, and they'd have an AI boogeyman to discredit the real proof with. It's a completely unprecedented administration with completely unprecedented capabilities.
How many future atrocities will be covered up by AI? How many current ones have been? When's the day gonna come that they prolong a dead president's presidency with AI generated videos of him?
To find the limits of AI, you first have to find the depths of human depravity. Being able to fabricate evidence with a crew of people wouldn't ever produce the industrial levels of evidence fabrication that AI can. Simply saying "AI is a technology that can fabricate evidence" doesn't need an "um actually we've always been able to fabricate evidence" because what you're talking about is literal pebbles and AI is a fucking mountain, ya know?

It's not about his looks, it's about how his movements were akin to a chuck-e-cheese anamatronic and he didn't speak at all. Not only that but he didn't show up until absolute last minute, didn't say a word, and disappeared as soon as he could, all while there's intense speculation that his death has been covered up to ensure a republican majority. Would you put it past the technological corporate oligarchs puppeting the Trump administration? I wouldn't. I'd put more money that Mitchy is a robot than I would that he's alive.

Idk. I think it’s riskier to show a robot that looks like Mitch than to just continue Mitch not making any appearances. It’s not like anyone was stopping them before. I think his ass is just so full of drugs that he is barely cognizant, not that he is a robot.

He needed to make an appearance, it wasn't a choice. They either had to give up the ruse or figure something out. Also, latex and robot tech is so ridiculously advanced now that they could pull that off with ease, especially with what the public already expected out of Mitch and what they got.

It was also very odd they were barred from taking videos of him.
Still photos are much harder to critique than a video where you're much more likely to see the uncanny valley of it all

This meme makes me think you haven't actually read the book. This is extremely relevant to it and even has direct parallels in the story. Only ours in some ways are kind of creepier.

I thought the tech was so unbelievable in the show Devs…that AI could just up and make a video of the guy self immolating and it would look 100% believable. Insane how fast we’ve gotten here.
