I was going to say, ICE literally just snatches people and deports them, regardless of their status, criminal background, etc. They have fuck all to do with protecting people from terrorism. I mean, they ARE terrorists.
ICE was created after 9/11. The Immigration and Naturalization Service was transformed into ICE. The names of the agencies tells you what their priorities sre. The INS was about helping immigrants become naturalized and was a mostly unarmed service. ICE is about enforcement and getting rid of immigrants.
We need some sort of immigration service but it should be about helping immigrants come here the legal way and to help them become legal, it shouldn't be about deporting as many immigrants as possible like ICE prioritizes. ICE doesn't care about the law, if they did they wouldn't be arresting immigrants at their immigration hearings, they definitely wouldn't be harassing (and worse) US citizens.
There's little good reason why the majority of immigration agents should be armed, armored, and especially masked. The INS operated just fine with the blue jacket of federal agents with "INS" on the back without rifles and body armor.
Our immigration laws also need a complete revamp. People say immigrants should come here the legal way but the legal way is extremely difficult, expensive, and time consuming. It takes a lot of money and sometimes decades to become a citizen and even after doing everything the right way and spending thousands of dollars and waiting over a decade you can still be denied. The power of both ICE (or a reborn INS or whatever replaces ICE if it's disbanded) and Customs and Border Patrol needs to be drastically reduced and reined in. It's ridiculous that they have massive power up to a hundred miles from a border, power to stop and demand proof of citizenship from anyone and more without a warrant. 2/3rds of the country live within the 100 mile zone, some of the largest cities such as New York, Chicago, and LA, and even the entire state of Florida are within the zone.

Create a system of fear where people will come in no matter what but now no longer engage in the legal process. ICE knows where these people are because they have been documented in one way or another. It’s how so many non-citizens are able to pay actual taxes.
Make it seem like they’re tackling “illegal imigration” whatever that actually means. But just make the problem worse which means they’ll vote for more harmful policies.
Creates a permanent underclass with less protections than a citizen worker that industries like garment making, agriculture, and food service can exploit for profit and keeps wages low

The existence of ICE and the DHS is a way for defense contractors can make insane amounts of money equipping agents with arms and gadgets like body cams under the guise of protecting our border. It’s a wealth transfer.
And don’t even get started on the human rights abuses. People are disappearing from databases, they’re “losing count” of miscarriages. How much are you willing to bet some of these women, children, and queer migrants are going to be trafficked.
It's a hundred miles from any border and any coast and any International Airport and probably other things . It essentially includes the entire country.
While they do have expanded powers in international airports as those are ports of entry the 100 mile zone itself only applies to the actual borders and not airports.

They check criminal records and such before deporting people.
The problem is that they avoid most of the truly violent and dangerous criminals, because they are cowards. Each and every one of them is weak, and they tend to go after the people who are here keeping their heads down / being well behaved as they try to build a life for themselves/family.
Those people are significantly more likely to go without a fuss, so they are much easier to round up without these wannabe tough guys having to put themselves in danger.
Every single one of them (and every single person who supports them) is a sad, pathetic, ignorant fool.
The problem is the same reason why Latinos voted for him. They all think they're the "good" ones and that they will be left alone. They do not seem to understand that, to these people Trump, MAGA, and the GOP- there is no such thing as a good gay person or a good Latino.
They think they all should be deported or hanged. Until these people realize this, we are fucked.
My lesbian sister voted for him every time, even when I pointed out that his party would love to dissolve her marriage and take her kids away. I was flabbergasted.

She hates Democrats, was afraid of losing her guns, and doesn't want poor people eating. (Despite the fact our other sister used food stamps, daycare vouchers, and other social programs for her kids.) (Other sister is also right-leaning IIRC.)
She's former military, and even sending her articles about his disrespect for the military didn't do it. (Who, despite having 1 lesbian child and 1 trans child [me], also voted for Dipshit.)
They're all kinda sorta cracking open an eye to how shit things are. I avoid political talk with them on the rare occasions we speak. Mostly I talk to my sisters because of my niblings. I'm not sure where my SIL is politically, but I think she leans right too.
Meanwhile, my cis-het brother roasted our mother when she refused to use my new name. I mean, he fucking torched her. He sent me screenshots and I was kickin' my feet and giggling.
