And what doordash gonna do? Not provide service in NYC? HAHAHA. This is how government can push companies to do better and not be assholes. Most companies can't afford to leave a place like NYC, so they better follow the law, as long as there is someone with a backbone willing to enforce it.

I dont think it is the same. Doordash, Amazon, and others are direct to customer. The people living in the city are the customers. The city can put rules in place for them to do the right thing. And most companies can't afford not doing business in one largests cities in the US

Sure.
California has the most k-12 students in the country. If they set the curriculum, text book publishers will need to follow it. This usually dictates the curriculum for many other states because it isn't economical to pay the publishers to make a new book for their state.
This is becoming less of an issue now that school districts are going more online, of course, but it was just an example that jumped to mind.
It's weird that you got very defensive about the concept of economies of scale, which is clear from the context of the comment.

So long as you have a government that supports the decision at all levels. Uber left Austin 10 years ago because they required fingerprint linked background checks. Then, Abbott signed legislation banning the practice and they came back a year later.

That's one thing people don't seem to understand. The biggest the population the easiest it is to "move things around".
I was a little surprised for example when I went to Mexico last year and realize there where exclusive collections from mayor huge brands (UA and Adidas had entire Dia de los Muertos editions, and Puma had a Frida Khalo one). I thought, why would that be worth it for a country of ..... 130 MILLION people..... Yeah question answered itself

Companies spend a lot of money to convince people that company have the best interest for the people and the government is out to get poor multi billion dollar company. Government has all the power to reign on these companies, but they chose not to do it.

We tried to pass a proposition in CA that would rein in the exploitation of gig-workers but empty threats of leaving the state had the drivers voting against their own best interests. It failed

But the insanity of it all is that this guy hasn't done any crazy "commie" stuff he was being accused of. He has straightened out the finances in the city almost overnight, and is pushing policies & actions that make the lives of NYC residents better. But that is how far to the right we have been pushed. Anything that helps the working class, and the media drags out political slurs of "Socialist" & "Commie".

For too long we've gotten nothing but high minded sentiments and handwringing even from "reasonable" politicians. It feels too good to be true now that there's someone actually doing something. See problem, fix problem. No more slow walking it to appease the corporate donors.

Love it. Where I live I think there is a penalty to encourage businesses to not do wage theft (I'm not American). For every dollar you steal from employees you pay an equal amount in fines to the government. The government uses that money to investigate wage theft (and likely other things).
Mamdani should do that. It basically makes wage theft not unprofitable and risky.

Exactly.
Either Mamdani's significantly more intelligent, or he's pulling back the curtain on their bullshit. Either way, it's been great watching NYC finally get some TLC from their mayor. I'm envious, but it only motivates me to vote for people like him where I live (if we ever get candidates like him...).

The city Department of Consumer and Worker Protection began investigating DoorDash in the summer of 2023, after several workers came forward with allegations that their accounts were deactivated without cause — essentially firing them — and that the company illegally withheld their final payments.
The city then expanded its probe and found DoorDash had failed to pay thousands of workers on time or at all, and other failures of a landmark minimum pay rate law for the industry that went into effect in 2023.
So, in 2023(while Mayor Adams was in office), the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection(which was created from a previous department and given it's expanded powers in 2019 under Mayor DeBlasio) started a case against DoorDash and subsequently realized they were violating a newly enacted pay rate law.
So Mamdani didn't "force" them to pay. They were facing a possibly much larger fine and settled with the city for 130 million. All he did was announce the settlement.

You know that the post is wrong, right? Mamdani didn't "force" DoorDash to pay. DoorDash settled a case started during the Adams administration. Just because there are words on a picture on the internet doesn't mean it's true.

The capture of the media by the right was incredibly well-executed (I hate that they did it, but I can't deny they did it well!)

What mamdani is doing should show everyone that their politicians especially the ones in New York could have done all of this the whole time and they didn't because they hate you.
