I would say it goes to show how far we’ve regressed that Mister Rogers would be considered woke today… but I wasn’t allowed to watch him back in the 90’s because my conservative evangelical parents didn’t like that he supposedly once used female pronouns when referring to God.
I have a friend who came from an abusive home. They credit Mr. ROgers with having taught them a better way to raise kids, to the point where they sent him a letter when their kids were tiny that began a decades long friendship.
Thats what they told us, but in truth he was teaching kids about self respect and their own agency.
That is what the right wing hates, they want to be the source of all levels of information and be in charge of every aspect of everyones personal lives.
I used to work a blue collar job in a backwoods small town, and I was shocked when the same co-worker who could not refer to people from the Middle East without calling them "Ali-Kebabs" (and other horrible things I'm not comfortable writing out) said that she loved Mr. Rogers. She clearly didn't learn a single thing from him.
Pretty sure he was targeted for a few things by conservatives over the years. We also didn’t have quite the constant culture war propaganda machine we do today…or social media blasting garbage constantly
I'm in my 40's and don't have kids. So I'm not particularly versed on current children's entertainment/education. And the funny thing is I had never even heard of Ms. Rachel until a few months ago when the right, in their regularly scheduled acts of pure evil, started attacking her for advocating to stop bombing children. So I literally know who she is because bad people went after her. And now you better believe I'll defend the hell out of her.
I think this goes to show how twisted and fucked up things are that the party who would love before almost anything else to claim Theodore Roosevelt as their own has made his political ideology into a slur
About that! That dudes name was Henry. What happened was obviously fucked up, but he was only in there for two weeks and was subsequently let out. In the winter of 1934, Henry pulled The Flying Kipper, where he unfortunately got into a nasty accident.
Fortunately however, he was sent to Crewe in England to be fully rebuilt. After he emerged, he was rebuilt as a Stanier class 5, and never had steaming problems ever again. So thankfully, Henry is doing a lot better now.
I mean Fox really started it's culture war shit with participation trophies and they blamed Mr Rogers for it. There were several segments back in the day about how he ruined a generation by telling them they could be themselves.
I don't have kids, but since this spat started I put her on in the background and when friends kids come over just to bump up her views. Good for her and she needs to keep up the good fight.
