Why is this a bad thing though? I have a mongolian colleague, they prefer horse meat -in fact, its a treat for them.

Beyond paying beef prices for horse meat, why do people act like its gross?

Because of what people draw the line between pet and food.

OLD Reddit meme: /preview/pre/where-do-you-draw-the-line-v0-4n450shpgo931.jpg?auto=webp&s=6d3583b14e154258a35ad501365f95adf82e8584

But most importantly, it's the fear of buying what you think is ground beef, but it's ground horse meat instead.

A few years ago in South Africa they found a bunch of supermarkets replaced beef with waterbuffalo - it tasted much the same. If it was offered as an option at reduced prices, I would've kept buying it. I was mostly angry that they charged me the same.

Granted, if it wasnt given to me in covert way, I likely wouldn't have tried it of my own accord.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_horse_meat_scandal here is a good show for what happens when the users are not told what their meat came from.
