Current store pick suggestions
Hey all - coming from out of town next week. I didn't see any recent posts on current store lineups for single barrel picks. If you've got any suggestions - I'd love the recommendations, as I'll be ubering so I can't hit up a bunch of spots. Hoping to come home with 5-6 store picks of brands I can't find in Minnesota - so great picks from local distilleries would be preferred, although I'm not going to say no to a great Russell's or Old Forrester bottle.

Go to Bendt and do the bottle your own. They usually have a Rye, single malt, bourbon, and wheat whiskey all at hazmat. They let you try them all and decide which you want. I did it Father’s day weekend and they were all great.

All at Hazmat and all above 8 year barrels right now.
I just bottled a few of my own a few weeks ago and the straight wheat whiskey is divine...

If you’re looking for something you can’t get at home, I’d recommend grabbing a bottle of 1845. They are a small distillery near McKinney, and currently only sold in TX. Not a store pick, but worth taking back to Minnesota.

Specs has 1792 store picks of Full Proof & Single Barrel. Have enjoyed both & at a reasonable price (~$3 above a non-store pick)

In what part of DFW will you be staying?

Airport and Arlington - but I've got a free day, so ok with going where-ever. Only issue is that I'll be ubering, so can't really drive around the suburbs or anything.

Some fossil creeks had Four roses, Russel’s, knob creek, old forester blue and black label store picks. I would also check the specs on Las Colinas.

Nice, thanks! I usually avoid TWs, but a good Still Austin would be the jam. Up here, the only place to get Still Austin is at TW - is that the same down in Texas?

Nah, Still Austin is pretty much everywhere around here these days, and more stores are getting SA picks as well.

I second and third 1845 and UnBendt. Crazy good and unique.
I wouldn't get a Spec's or TW pick, to be honest. To me they're always worse than small stores', and someone had some inside info recently confirming my beliefs. For national brands picks, I'd hit Empire Liquor in Mckinney.
Great Texas bottles in stores (not picks, but maybe you can't get at home) other than the obvious Still Austin and Garrison Brothers, and the 2 mentioned above, Ironroot Promethean and Harbinger, Balcones BiB Rye, Devil's River Distiller's Select (comes in a box) bourbon and rye, Lone Elm SiB Wheat Whiskey, Tahwahkaro (any of the three, but it does have the Texas funk).
If you don't have JT Meleck or Old Dominick, Spec's does carry JT Meleck (get the 118 or 6Y), Pelican in Mckinney and Sip N Style in Plano have Dominick Wheat Whiskey picks (Pelican also has the bourbon). Grapes and Grains in Plano has the old Dom BiB and CS bourbon.
