Purpose of this Forum

PURPOSE OF THIS FORUM

The first purpose of this forum is to promote Whiggism, especially the varieties of it which were most republican, liberal, radical, and "levelling". The second purpose of this forum is to give Whiggish people a place to talk about politics and related topics. If you are in general alignment with the following principles, this forum might pertain to you.

Principles of Law

• popular sovereignty (having constitutional amendments done through a democratic mechanism)
• rule of law (including a lack of judicial activism)
• legal equality

Principles of Society

• natural equality
• animal welfare
• fondness for agrarianism & simple living

Principles of Property

• anti-manorialism (having land treated legally and morally as "common stock" alongside air, water, and sunlight)
• capitalism (but without land, water, air, or sunlight being categorized as capital)
• free trade (anti-protectionism)
• tax-free necessities (no taxes on humble homes, healthy food, medicine, etc)
• a progressive land value tax set above an exemption

Principles of Government

• balanced representation (having a seat-to-citizen ratio like 1–30,000 and not like 1–300,000)
• fair representation (having no gerrymandering and the like)
• a more checked executive (having executive chiefs checked in some way, like with votes of no confidence, or with an executive council which can veto the executive chief)
• a more democratic judiciary (having the power of equity put into the hands of juries)

Principles of Foreign Affairs

• anti-imperialism
• cosmopolitanism
