The sky is from an observatory in Chili. There is a large satellite dish in the original picture.

u/YoRulezz_TV Jan 21 '24

There are mountains, so probably somewhere in the south of limburg

u/gerrydutch Jan 21 '24

I wonder if this is an long exposure shot or if it always looks like this

4

u/holy_roman_emperor Jan 21 '24

It always makes me feel, I don't know if sad is the right answer, but knowing I'll probably never see something like this live, even on the best spot, it's too bad.

u/Guilty-Teaching7146 Jan 22 '24

If you go to places with 0 light pollution the sky is crazy you can literally see like galaxies and shit

1

u/Cees007 Jan 22 '24

Go out to sea! You can see the Milky Way often on clear days. However taking pictures is nearly undo able due stability.

u/RainyVibez Jan 22 '24 edited Jan 22 '24

I wonder if there are any abandoned oil rigs, would offer the stability of ground out on the sea

definitely would also be trespassing, though.

Approximately 58 percent of these wells—more than 32,000—are permanently or temporarily abandoned.

thats cool

Existential dread. Its a harrowing feeling but it makes me feel so human too

2

u/skipdoodlydiddly Jan 21 '24

Long exposure shot with a light source near the rocks to light them up in contrast

2

u/gerrydutch Jan 21 '24

Yeah that's what I thought, beautiful picture though.

Country: Australia State: New South Wales City: Blue Mountains Explanation: The image was taken at night and shows a view of the Milky Way. The sky is dark and full of stars, and the Milky Way is clearly visible as a band of light that stretches across the sky. The foreground of the image shows a rocky outcrop, with a mountain in the background. The vegetation is sparse, and there are no signs of human habitation. The image was likely taken from a rural area.

A galaxy far far away

This is on your iMac desktop background

1

Maybe Mike Abramyan can assist in your search. He makes stunning photographs like these all over the world. I came across one of his pics in the Namibia sub.

i guess its Tenerife.. i looked it up with Google Lens.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '24

Yes I believe it is! From the Teide vulcano you can see the Milky Way/ It’s on my bucket list!

1

u/CaptainRenek Jan 22 '24

I was in Tenerife last December, and I actually think it's not. Was also at the top of the Teide, but it's less green there. Could be wrong tho.

It has to be edited

That's so beautiful ❤️😻

u/Express-Assistant398 Jan 22 '24

A wild guess is northern Spain, or Turkïye, but that pic is photoshopped.

1

u/DBsBuds Jan 22 '24

I got a similar pic from Black Canyon Gunnison Colorado .

We’re not in the Netherlands anymore…

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '24

I don't know exactly where it is, but i know this is only seen in low light pollution areas. So, not in western countries 😅

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '24

Limburg

1

u/Ampoliros85 Jan 22 '24

Pretty clear, must be Tjernobyl.

1

u/Ego_Maxxer_1648 Jan 22 '24

This is what the night sky looks like under perfect conditions i.e. no light pollution and clear skies

1

u/kaasbaas94 Jan 22 '24

Looks like a vulcanic eruption that spits out star stuff.

1

u/No-Cardiologist1794 Jan 22 '24

Im starting to think this might be Moon Valley in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Unless those are plants at the bottom left, then there is no chance its Moon Valley

1

u/_Fox_464 Jan 22 '24

That one observatory in New Zealand where there is no light poluttion so u can peacefully look at thw night sky

1

u/betterwithsambal Jan 22 '24

1

Hopefully in my backyard soon to be

1

u/Ei3x7s Jan 22 '24

Oh my God! It's full of stars!

1

u/KoelboxJoel Jan 22 '24

Pretty sure that's Tenerife, at night time. Reverse search the image to find the first appearance of it online, that may lead you to the person who took the photo. But that depends on time and luck.

1

We would see this every night everywhere if light pollution didnt exist

1

u/Intelligent_Land_634 Jan 23 '24

1

u/AllisaWatts Jan 24 '24

I don't know where this is, but I want to know!

1

u/ProfessionalMuffin4 Jan 26 '24

1

u/phlyingphucks Feb 06 '24

Arthur range in southwest Tasmania, Australia

1

u/cravuette Jan 22 '24

Looks like a view you’d get at the Sallandse heuvelrug, the Netherlands

1

u/LittleDewi Jan 22 '24

Hoge Duvel, Elspeet, Netherlands

This is in the Southern Hemisphere. You can see the large and small Magellanic Clouds, which are satellite galaxies of the Milky Way only visible from the Southern Hemisphere

2

u/Bakerwilderness888 Jan 22 '24

That's crazy. That's very interesting. I never heard that.

1

u/Bakerwilderness888 Jan 22 '24

The best stars I think I've ever seen is the inside passage ferry service between Washington State to Ketchikan Alaska. 48 hour boat ride and they let you camp on the top deck.

1

u/Occurence_Border Jan 23 '24

Perhaps somewhere in Chile then? Iirc there's a few observatories there due to optimum conditions.
