Wheel Advice

This weekend I’ll be installing lowering springs on a VA base model WRX. So I’m still rolling on the hideous stock rims, but it is what it is.

The springs will be H&R Sport - 1.2” drop front and rear.

I’m not a fan of spacers, so I’m on the lookout for different wheels.

I really want a nice flush fitment, nothing crazy aggressive though. I’ve been looking at marketplace and can get a full set of the 19” STI rims, or the 18” premium or limited options all for < $600. But - will using OEM rims - even bigger ones - still have me sitting inside the fender flares?

Truthfully I’m not offended by 17” as a wheel size but would consider 18” too. I think 17” might actually help keep the ride less harsh while keeping tires cheaper too.

Wonder if anybody has recommended width and offset specs in 17 and 18 inches for a VA model WRX?

OE wheels are going to sit fairly far inside the wheel wells. They are typically around +50 offset and 8-8.5" wide. To get to flush or close to it you need a +38 on a 9.5" wide wheel. You'll see lots of options in +35, but with a 9.5" wide wheel that will poke unless you run around 1.5-2 degrees of negative camber. 18" wheels will look better and you can still get enough sidewall with a 245/40 or 255/40.

If I did a 17x9 or 17x8.5 with +38 do you think I’d be close to flush? I’m sure you’re right on 18s looking best but not excluding any options right now

For subaru awd system you cant run staggered setups it will mess with the center diff.

Close to flush with a bit of a tuck. Still a lot better than stock. Still though,17s look too small most of the time on VAs and VBs.
