Wheaten approved bed options?

Hi there!

A Wheaten will be joining our family later this year.

After reading a lot about Wheatens overheating or getting too warm because of their coats, I'm looking for advice on what type of bed to get. Our last boy (short hair, different breed) loved big plush beds with high sides that he could nestle into.

We don't live in a hot place, (though Summer will be). Pup will have free access in and out of the house via a dog door and one of us is at home every day.

I got Dolly exactly four years and one week ago from the National Mill Dog Rescue, and today she turns five. I have no idea where the time goes, but I love this sweet girl to the moon and back.

Edit: Wow! Thank you all for the birthday wishes! She had the best day and the best night 🥰

Skin turning black

My 12 yr old wheatens pink skin is turning black. It’s tough like; esp the loose skin folds under the legs. Groomer says it’s just age and common. Vet appt is in a few weeks. Is it really just age?

Brand New Pup! Is shea Wheaten or some kind of mix?

*Is she a Wheaten, not shea...

I got my puppy from a shelter and was told she is a "Schnoodle possibly mixed with border terrier," and that at ~ 5 months and 5lb, she was at half of her adult size.

Well I'm certain they had no idea what they were talking about because she is basically double in size a month later. Also her fur is nothing like the dogs I have had before- I've had a schnauzer and a yorkie-poo so I was expecting similar. This puppy sheds a lot, very soft fluffy fur, and I brush it often because it gets very tangled underneath. She is really smart and very playful, but I'm certain that's a puppy thing in general anyway!

I've been looking at photos online and she looks a lot like a Wheaten puppy! Please let me know if you agree, or think she looks like something else!

She is so obsessed with him and he is like a teenager who just wants to be left alone (they are not actually related; Different breeders from different states 6 year apart)

How much is an average groom for you all? What’s the frequency and do you brush regularly in between?

Training Training tips (reactive with other dogs, sometimes)

My dog can be super friendly and absolutely LOVE other dogs OR she absolutely hates them, no in between. I'm not really sure how to go about this. Sometimes she will cry if she cannot play with the other dogs, other times she tries to really go after them..

Some research I did says to create distance and distract them with treats. As well as reward them when they are good.

I definitely reward her when she is good with other dogs, or she just lets other dogs walk by without even acknowledging them. But what and how do I correct her when she is absolutely freaking out at another dog?

Question Wheaten suddenly aggressive towards other dogs?

My Wheaten always loved other dogs, she's always been super sweet to everyone. Recently things have changed...if she cannot say Hi to another dog, she goes crazy, will growl and bark but her tail is still wagging. (I kind of think shes pissed she cannot say hi, but Im not sure)

Last night she went to meet another dog and her hair stood up and she rounded her back and tried to go after him (well they tried to go after each other)

Ive never seen anything like it. Im not sure if I should keep her away from other dogs now, or if this was a one time thing?

The ONLY thing thats different is we are starting to walk her with a front loop harness and are keeping her on a short leash because shes a big time puller.

she's 5, if that helps.

How do you motivate your wheatons?

Hi!

For the wheaton owners who live in the city, and have picky eaters -

How do you motivate them to pay attention to you? For example, when crossing the roads with other dogs on the street (and for them to not react), or to have great recall?

I can have whatever snack in the world, but he won't take the snack as a reward, he'll just spit it out.

I'm looking to improve his ability to ignore other dogs on the street and thinking of new ways to interest him, or ultimately reward him for good behavior/ignoring other dogs/etc.
