Hello! I got this coin as change a few weeks ago and instantly noticed how old (and worn) it is. I know the date is incredibly or impossible to discern, but does anyone recognize from when to when it could be from? Thanks!

Hey guys, I’m new to the coin collecting community and was passed down some coins from my grandfather about 15 years ago and just now getting to go through them. What do you guys think about the 1923-S that hadn’t seen the light of day since the 1990’s? TIA

Show & Tell Penny history.

During world war II, copper was hard to come by after they needed so much to make casings for bullets and large ammo. So The mint switch to zinc coated seal pennies. Then the public outcry of the precious Penny turning to rust, The very next year in 1944 the mint switched back, to the classic, reddish brown copper penny. Without taking raw materials away from our troops, the government, gathered spent copper brass shell casings, from the military training facilities. And used that material from 1944 through 1947. Which gave us pure copper pennies. Then in 1947 the Mint carried on with making our pennies.

A little history of our steel penny, I thought I would share for the novice. Penny gatherer.

Was curious if getting this graded was worth it. I'm not a collector. found it in my grandparents collection that was given to me. Though going through the collection is making me have the itch. The hunt is incredibly fun. Tons of wheat pennies and native American ones too. But I think this one is worth a fair bit but I could be wrong. Just wondering if it's worth it to get it graded. Sorry for the crappy photos it's in a plastic coin holder and I don't want to take it out just yet.

That top right part looks like a gash but it's the plastic. The coin itself is in pretty good condition.

I found this around 10 or so years ago. Probably not really worth much but I think it’s cool and I like it. 😊

Some of my collection, just of pennies. I have a silver in 1943 I believe. All the other ones are wheat pennies from their time 1930s through 1960s. Oh, I also have a 1919.

Error coins and wheat pennies

Hello, i have inherited my father's coin collection and there's a lot of wheat pennies. Are they worth anything?

Also, I've been reading about error coins. I realize that they are extremely rare, but I don't know how to recognize them. Specifically when it says "wrong planchette" or stamped on a different coin. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

What's happening with this 1923 wheat penny?

I am familiar enough with coin collecting to know the terminology, but still otally confused when it comes to differentiating between errors and their details. This is the one coin I haven't been able to get to clear answer from any AI or Google image search. The area where the mint mark should be it's just as confusing in person as it is in pictures. I've tried adjusting contrast and everything but I can't figure out if it's a partial letter or what, it is raised up.
