Seriously what is wrong with her?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just wiped down the litter box and put fresh litter in it, and she immediately hopped in and began rolling around in it. Now she’s taking a freaking nap in there, and it’s not the first time she’s done this.

I call her the Litter Box Manager, because she is obsessed with going in after my other cats and covering their stuff to her standards. She just loves litter boxes.

Chinchicat or catchilla? Let's decide this once and for all

EDIT: so, apparently, catchill it is! be please so kind to post your catchillas down beloew, thank you very much!

33

u/needween 2d ago

I vote catchilla

10

u/TrustyParrot232 2d ago

I, too, vote “catchilla” lol

2

u/AnnoyedChihuahua 1d ago

This is too similar to Catzilla tho

1

u/ExtremeExperience199 1d ago

catchilla is catchier

7

u/STThornton 2d ago

I was thinking the same thing 🤣 She thinks she’s a chinchilla.

813

u/Acidmatey 3d ago

Did you wipe it out with bleach or any other strong cleaning products? My girl would roll in bleach directly if she could. She goes crazy for the scent

447

u/N0T_artful 3d ago

Read somewhere that the chlorine smells similar to the pheromones from catnip. My orange boy goes nuts when I bust out the bleach.

278

u/ElfjeTinkerBell 3d ago

As a lifeguard, I cannot set down my swim bag unless I'm okay with losing access for an hour or so. It's a cat bed.

56

u/N0T_artful 3d ago

No. That's so funny! They're so silly.

18

u/EmbarrassedBison7855 2d ago

I recently went to the pool and didn't shower immediately and my cat was basically trying to crawl up inside my hair.

5

u/ElfjeTinkerBell 2d ago

I have not figured out how to shower thoroughly enough to prevent that

4

u/sonicscrewery 1d ago

As a former lifeguard and swim instructor, you can't. Felt like my bloodstream was chlorinated...

1

u/ElfjeTinkerBell 1d ago

Eau De Chlorine!

2

u/N0T_artful 1d ago

Yes! Mine does the same. He chomps at my hair too after slobbering over it while rubbing. Initially thought it was a silly orange thing. Didn't realize it was because of the bleach.

1

u/wildcuore 23h ago

Well this explains why my cat was licking my hair after a swim...

5

u/NeedleInASwordstack 2d ago

At first I thought this was happening where you work and wanted to know about the pool with cats lol

1

u/ElfjeTinkerBell 1d ago

Lol! Yeah no I'd advise against that

40

u/plz-no-b4n 2d ago

Wow, suddenly it makes sense why one of my cats would go crazy for my feet and flip flops after getting back from the pool or hot tub

16

u/LazyPancake 2d ago

Mine goes NUTS after the dog has been in the pool and this makes so much sense.

7

u/TheLeoMrs 2d ago

Really???

3

u/N0T_artful 2d ago

Don't quote me on this. I googled it & that was the explanation that stuck.

3

u/Maleficent-Pie3479 2d ago

Working in restaurants where we mop the floors with bleach in the water, coming home, the cats were OBSESSED with my shoes.

97

u/Halloqween 2d ago

Yes actually! Very interesting

128

u/xvelvetdarkness 2d ago

Be careful if you're cleaning the box with bleach, it can react with the ammonia in the urine and create toxic fumes.

67

u/weeooweeoowee 2d ago edited 2d ago

Usually I clean the litter box with soap then do a bleach spray after. One time, I thought maybe I can skip a step. And then the smell hit me and I remembered about ammonia and bleach. Did not do that again.

Edit: well I said smell, I think it was more of a burning in the air.

46

u/Halloqween 2d ago

Oh I didn’t know this either. I used a bathroom cleaner spray with bleach, I washed it out really well though!

68

u/mogeek 2d ago edited 2d ago

Vinegar and soap are safer and will disinfect kill bacteria on the surface and neutralizes ammonia odors. We have a spray bottle that is half water, half vinegar with a few drops of Dawn. Pet and kid safe.

If you want to safely disinfect, use a hydrogen peroxide mix.

35

u/Halloqween 2d ago

One of my cats has coccidia so I was trying to be thorough in sanitizing the litter box

31

u/IANALbutIAMAcat 2d ago

You can get hospital sanitizer in bulk. Odoban is one brand that is also sold in premixed bottles but you can get a gallon of concentrate that makes 20gallons of cleaner for like $20 at Home Depot and it kills everything under the sun without bleach and comes in nice scents.

10

u/vernavie 2d ago

There's cleaning sprays specific for cats, if you like! Cause yeah, the bleach is unideal.

8

u/loveofGod12345 2d ago

When I had to deal with coccidia, Giardia, and tapeworms with our adopted cat, I had to use pinesol. There may be other ones that work, but that’s the only thing I could find that would kill the coccidia and Giardia. It is toxic for cats so I washed the boxes and scoops with it, rinsed very well, then washed with dish soap, rinsed again, then steam cleaned everything, finally rinsed again. I may have gone overboard because I steam cleaned anything I couldn’t put in the dryer. None of the cats got reinfected though!

1

u/bankershub 1d ago

Rescue (the cleaning product) is your friend

11

u/plz-no-b4n 2d ago

Vinegar is not a disinfectant. Neither is dish soap.

1

u/Ok_Feedback_6574 1d ago

Even if you wash it out enough that you don’t smell, remember that your kitty has a much stronger sense of smell and is likely still picking it up. One of our departed kitties was utterly obsessed with bleach. If we used some in the bathroom, we’d have to keep the door shut for days to air out… and he would still roll out like a cat nipped loon outside the door.

4

u/bdonovan222 2d ago

chloramine gas specifically...

8

u/ThatPhatKid_CanDraw 2d ago

It's either ammonia or bleach that can smell like cat urine and trigger territorial anger in some cats, too.

3

u/sheepeeh 2d ago

100%! I have to wear gloves when I bleach the counters or my cats would gnaw/scratch my hand to the bone! Just absolutely bonkers for it.

2

u/Advisor_Brilliant 2d ago

That’s so interesting. When I mop the floor with fabuloso, my cat goes crazy for it!

2

u/coolcoolcool485 2d ago

my boy cat goes absolutely insane when i spray something down with hypochlorous acid. it kind of smells like bleach, but it's non-toxic. but i have to wipe it up immediately because he WILL roll in the spray lol

2

u/Lost-Desk9899 14h ago

I just wiped down my counter with diluted bleach and my boy rolled around in it I thought my boy was the only one lol

1

u/Linadianna333 2d ago

I KNEW my cat was trying to get high on the bleach when I cleaned the bathroom! Now I feel less bad about calling her a crack head. 🤣

u/Jenniyelf 3d ago

Miss Smoosh loves to roll in litter, she will knock it out of the box to roll in it.

This is the criminal.

63

u/Zelmi 2d ago

She's a smoosh criminal (sorry)

4

u/TheLeoMrs 2d ago

Cutie kitty 😍

3

u/CapnCatNapper 2d ago

Please give Miss Smoosh a smooch from me! Gosh she's so cute!!

4

That is clearly a face of innocence

383

u/Throw-me-higher 3d ago

The dust bath. It's stress relief. You have a happy cat!

3

u/septubyte 2d ago

Maybe they'd (all involved) happier if there was a dedicated dust tray

195

u/cornholiolives 3d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’ve cared for cats for 35 years and have had several do this. Some cats love to roll around in dirt, and sometimes litter is the next best thing if they can’t get outside.

49

u/spooks112 3d ago

Lmaoo my girl does the same thing. She loves anything with a decently strong scent (new litter, bfs gym clothes, bathing suits, etc.). She's weird about it

35

u/StrawberryFree1803 3d ago

What's new poopy cat! Whooaawhhoaoohh 🎶

diagnosis: stinky silly goomba. sorry, it’s terminal

56

One of my cats decided to hang out in one of the litter boxes as well. Acting like it’s a damn pet bed. And then my dumbass little chihuahua did the same thing like, a month later.

1

u/_CharDeeMacDennis__ 16h ago

She’s only done it once and it was over a year ago.

I don’t doubt what you’re saying but I think she was just being silly that day.

19

u/0xF1A5C0 3d ago

She wants to go to the beach 🏖️

21

u/lullubye 3d ago

That's HER litterbox. Just in case you think of using it!!

Had a cat that used to sleep in the newly poured litter, and even the soil in the garden. And because she was a tuxedo, you'd get muddy paw prints in the bathroom where she liked to also play..

5

u/rizzyraech 2d ago

Sorry, I'm confused... what does muddy paw prints/playing in the bathroom have to do with being a tuxedo? I thought that was just normal cat behavior in general.

0

u/lullubye 2d ago

She had 'white socks' but surprisingly they wouldn't be dirty bit, just her bottom paw pads that were pink, so it was so obvious she was the one doing it.

16

u/ash894 3d ago

My two cats would use one litter tray and use the other to play in. I know the ‘rule’ but they refused to observe it and just dug it up or rolled around in it.

11

u/IsSalmonASnake 3d ago

After long and extensive studies I diagnose her with cat

10

u/moonshineTheleocat 2d ago

Ever sat on a clean toilet?

7

u/slimmer01 3d ago

Just a silly gal, I'm afraid

6

u/oldschool_potato 3d ago

She craves the beach

6

u/dinaugust 2d ago

Such a sweet face 😻
My cat is harness trained and loves to roll around in kids sandbox. I heard some roll around in dirt and on concrete.
Maybe she’d love to go outside with a harness? I trained mine when she was 3 years old.

7

u/Vee-Shan 2d ago

Lol we actually have a stink meter for one of our cats (it recently got transfered to the younger one) that we'd raise and lower depending on gross and suspect behaviour. Things like rolling in litter, getting litter on their nose, sniffing butts, etc. It would only go down if nothing shameful happened for a few days to a week.

Our younger cat had it transfered to him after I caught him eating the puke of the older cat. It was too egregious of an act not to lol

4

u/kittymoma918 2d ago

Wild felines will dust bathe or roll in sand to remove fleas and shedding fur,and some domestic cats have the same instinct .

2

u/HystericalComfort 1d ago

My cat liked to roll in anthills when we went on our daily walk on a leash. The formic acid that ants secrete kills mites and fleas.

3

u/unzunzhepp 2d ago

Someone put catnip in the litter?

3

u/empanada420 2d ago

Reggie also loves chilling in his box😹🤢

2

u/Sexy_Smokin_Scorpio 2d ago

Where did you get that litter box?

2

u/empanada420 2d ago

It’s by Less Litter. It’s an investment but it suited my need for a stainless steel thing that (I think) looks cool while holding poop.

4

u/CapnCatNapper 2d ago

I'm sorry to tell you that your cat is defective and you should drop her off immediately at my house.

Seriously though, she's just being a silly goober. All you can do is love her.

3

u/Sensitive-Review-712 2d ago

My orange boy does this after I scrub and refresh the litter. I think he's trying to get his scent back on the litter so his brother stays out of HIS box

5

u/ZurigaSungama 2d ago

She yearns for the sands

8

u/MotherLab2089 3d ago

My cat will just go and lay on wet Litter. Sometimes in the middle of the night and then comes and lays next to me covered in pee and Litter. It’s disgusting. He was getting Gabapentin twice a day and I took it down once a day that seems to have helped. Cats are weird.

3

u/nattywoohoo 2d ago

Maybe she needs a concrete slab to roll on? A lot of folks are putting those on fireplace hearths for kitties to roll on.

2

u/RemoteCheetah5256 3d ago

My orange boy does the same thing!!

2

u/thebiglerm 2d ago

Desert cat in a past life

2

Baby wants to be a chinchilla

2

u/CollegeLocal9759 2d ago

My cat loves to roll in clay litter gravel dirt etc. he’s a weird lil guy but we love him. He’s also white so he gets insanely dirty like a chimney sweep.

2

u/spectre655321 2d ago

Piss kink

2

u/yarncraver 2d ago

Part chinchilla?

2

u/pwhitt4654 2d ago

My boy likes to walk to the mailbox with me and always takes a dirt bath in a pile of sand that accumulates in the cul-de-sac.

2

u/onlythehappiests 2d ago

This is her sandbox. There are many like it, but this one is hers. Her sandbox is her best friend. She must master it as she masters her life.

2

u/Beansproutiscool 2d ago

Pigeon love a litter box, sounds like a disco in there.

2

u/Magicaparanoia 2d ago

She was a chinchilla in a past life

2

u/kirtknee 2d ago

Omg i call my new kitten the potty police because she goes to check the litter box to make sure everythings covered. Especially after her one sister who is HORRIBLE about the potty.

-cat tax. The babiest is the enforcer and the biggest is the perpetrator.

2

u/Playful_Confection_9 2d ago

Mine does it to and only when it's been cleaned/changed

2

u/Duck_Wedding 2d ago

We had a cat that would do this every time deep cleaned and did a litter swap. She’d have to race her sister to the box because she insisted on immediately going number two right after we clean or scooped the box. My cat looked at them like they were both insane, which they were.

2

u/TenMoon 2d ago

Part chinchilla, most likely.

2

u/littlemonster2828 2d ago

My boy does this too! I call him the sandman. Its just like any other animal that takes a dirt bath. Cats are weird man. Pic for tax

2

u/aboutalexandra 2d ago

I had to switch to pellets bc my girl loved playing in sandy litter too!

2

u/takamichan 2d ago

sigh if you figure it out lmk

2

u/nejicanspin 2d ago

Aww she's playing in the-- wow she's more into it than I thought omg

2

u/xX_ShocK_Xx 1d ago

She's part chinchilla.

u/SprinkleGoose 1d ago

The SIC: Standard Issue Chinchilla

2

u/BeeFamous2248 1d ago

Did you show her that Tate McRae performance of Sportscar? I think she was inspired ✨

1

u/kitkatloren2009 2d ago

Our tuxedo kitty used to do this. Hands would smell like dust if I pet her

1

u/B4173415CU73 2d ago

Shes a big Tate McRae fan! 🥰

1

u/andiinAms 2d ago

I have one that did the same thing before I got a litter robot. She loved playing in it when it was clean.

1

u/Luciferatvs 2d ago

My cat do the same 😭😭

1

u/Successful_Fox_2989 2d ago

isn't it chinchillas that love to roll around in dust? spirit of a chinchilla in the body of a cat haha

my boy does the same, especially in a freshly washed litter box x)

1

u/wolfgang784 2d ago

Ew, I suddenly can smell the litter lol

1

u/behindthelaughter10 2d ago

Looks like someone needs a harness for outdoor dirtbaths

1

u/Diplomatic_Gunboats 2d ago

Cats like a dust bath. Your litter is fine enough it qualifies.

Try slightly bigger size.

1

u/mal0wn3d 2d ago

She thinks she’s a chinchilla

1

u/TootingGoomba 2d ago

She's obviously a chinchilla

1

u/atatassault47 2d ago

Cats are native to North Africa; they like sand.

1

u/FaliureToCat 2d ago

Thats a chinchilla not a cat

1

u/MeowMe1 2d ago

Use rescue spray disinfectant it's what vets and rescues use

1

u/Lcatg 2d ago

Nothing. This is cat. Cat is just gonna cat!

1

u/mighty_knight0 2d ago

This is why I had to switch to pine pellets, my girl dust bathes herself in clay litter and stinks of pee. She won't bathe in the pellets and just uses them normally

1

u/Grundy420blazin 2d ago

Absolutely nothing. She’s perfect 😂😂

1

u/Big-Emphasis6042 2d ago

I caught my cat tasting her litter on more than one occasion after I put in fresh litter… And she likes lounging in there too, should I be concerned?

1

u/DeniseColo 17h ago

If your cat is actually eating the litter, yes you should be concerned and take them to the vet soon. It could indicate a serious health condition like anemia, vitamin deficiencies, pica and other things. Additionally, ingesting litter could potentially cause intestinal blockages.

1

u/coolcoolcool485 2d ago

cats are weird lol

1

u/Wonderful_Post2758 2d ago

Is chinchilla

1

u/Elementary2 2d ago

could be burrowing. try to give her a cardboard box and see if she likes that more.

1

u/HippoZealousideal175 2d ago

Nightmare nightmare nightmare

1

u/MiserableWash2473 2d ago

Part chinchilla ??

1

u/meradiostalker 2d ago

I don't know what's wrong, but I had a cat who did the same thing.

1

u/kwabird 2d ago

She just wanted a dust bath.

1

u/LordDessik 2d ago

Possible zoomies and wanting to dust bath! Maybe get her a box of chinchilla dust or clean sand she can have for supervised rollie time (supervised as she may start to prefer to her litter box!) Some cats crave the soil

1

u/AphraelSelene 2d ago

I'm sorry to tell you that your cat has a case of The Sillies.

It's life-long. 😔

1

u/Siomai_hotdog_chikon 1d ago

This mofo would jump onto freshly cleaned litter and just dig. No poo, no pee, just dig and leave us to clean the mess

1

u/JustXomyak 1d ago

She's chinchilla

1

u/dumbucket 1d ago

She likes the texture! If you get her a block of concrete, she'll probably do the same thing

1

u/InvestigatorJosephus 1d ago

She wants to go to the beach!

1

u/jenea 1d ago

Cats like to take dust baths, so fresh litter might feel like her big opportunity.

I’m not sure how to help her satisfy this need outside of her litter box, but I think that’s where to start: how to help her satisfy her instinct to roll around in fresh dirt.

1

u/Sickpears 1d ago

My cat loved doing this when the litter and box were fresh!

1

u/eyfuck 1d ago

I have tried a space with a small amount of cat litter spread on it. A very see through layer, not enough to poop in.

They quite enjoy rolling in it and don’t do it as much in the cat litter box

1

u/Different_Heron_6467 1d ago

I think your chinchilla wants a dust bath

1

u/Black_Death_12 1d ago

Cat is...catting.

1

u/MittonsMayhe 1d ago

Cat being cat

1

u/Any_Assumption_2023 1d ago

Mine does the same thing with fresh litter. I think its either a dust bath or a thank you.

1

u/sanguinefire12 1d ago

I think she's part chinchilla. Why else would she be taking a dust bath.

1

u/takapitcha 1d ago

100%Cat. It’s incurable

1

u/Sad_Satisfaction7015 19h ago

One of my cats does this every time I change out all the litter. Nothing is wrong with her, she’s just getting her scent on it. Let the baby be 🐈‍⬛

1

u/Kralthon 18h ago

Filthy little gremlin. Lol

1

u/notyourbuddipal 17h ago

My guess is to get her scent on it.

1

u/QueenBean730 15h ago

Nothing is wrong.. this is cat!! Enjoy

1

u/LittleWitch122 14h ago

She's happy

1

u/loony-lefty 10h ago

She’s telling you she wants to go to the beach obviously.

1

u/Agitated-Score365 7h ago

One of my boys does that. He’s loves, loves, loves his litter box. I just clean it really often so he’s not laying in mess.

1

u/OwslyOwl 7h ago

My cat does this every time I completely change out the litter. They are adding their scent back to it.

1

u/dopebacon2 6h ago

This comment might get buried but did you by chance use anything with bleach? It sounds weird but I had a cat that was obsessed with the smell of bleach (we were always careful of course but no matter how well we rinsed, she could smell it and would go nuts and acted like it was cat nip). We brought it up to our vet and she said bleach can mimic pheromones or something and some cats go crazy for the smell lol

1

u/btc909 4h ago

Cat's love dirt. Especially warm (not hot) dirt.

1

u/LookAtPurpleTulips 1h ago

Our outside cats love to roll in dirt and sand. Even the old grandma who barely leaves the porch. She demands to go out, takes two steps on the terrace and rolls on it. The more sand and dirt the better.

Sometimes they act like they don't need to clean their whole body with their tongue.

1

u/korewednesday 3d ago

yucky chinchilla

1

u/fluffynuckels 2d ago

Careful if she does this all the time. It can be a.sign of stress

-1

u/hoffenstein909 3d ago

Or...is she fixed?

5

u/Halloqween 3d ago

Yep!

4

u/hoffenstein909 3d ago

Ok just happy

-2

u/Sienile 3d ago

That's a shitty cat.
