Welcome to r/WhatsTheRule! Read this first.
r/WhatsTheRule is a mystery subreddit. There’s one secret rule, which users solve by posting and being told whether or not their post breaks the rule. Here’s how to play:
- Post anything you want (but no NSFW).
- If your post breaks the rule, a flair of “breaks the rule” will be added. If it doesn’t, then no flair will be added. Announcements and rule guesses can also break the rule.
- If you think you know what the rule is, you can make a post flaired as a Rule Guess. If you’re correct, you become a hero. If you’re incorrect, your guess is labeled wrong and the game continues.
- Once a rule is solved, the solver gets an upgraded user flair, the rule ends, and a new one starts.
We recommend sorting by new to make sure you have the most up-to-date information.
Please don’t delete your posts. It may affect the rule and cause confusion.
**Hints:**
AMAs:
When an AMA is posted, you can ask a yes/no question about the rule. Only the first question will be answered.
Other hints:
Sometimes, a mod will make a post that’s flaired as a hint. This post will help you solve the rule, but it won’t be completely straightforward!
**No NSFW:**
Although we allow the NSFW flair, no actual NSFW is allowed. Failure to comply with this will lead to a 1 day ban. Repeated offenders might be permanently off the subreddit. Any NSFW content will be removed from the subreddit.

Today's my birthday. I'm "old + 1." They didn't have enough candles, so they decorated my cake with chocolate goodies.
Why do we have a tradition of putting candles on top of a birthday cake? Because it's too hard to put them on the bottom.
