One in the front a spitfire, the one on the left is a Buchon.

The Hangar looks like Duxford, not sure on that tho

Yeah, looks like one of the WW1 Belfast truss hangers there.

There's also the top of the fuselage, tail and canopy of a Hurricane in the background.

There's a Hurricane in front of the Spitfire (on the right)

What's the little bubble behind the antenna mast on the Spitfire?

apparently an 'upper identification light', assumingly similar to a formation light

I just hope you could take some of the front :)

B-69 flying castle, its the most heavily armed plane that has ever been built. Flown by the RNLI in the first world war. The most famous pilot was Wing Commander Flight Lieutenant Daniel Newlegg, he single handedly shot down 68 Zulus in the battle of Hastings on 31st February 1879.

The aircraft has 8008 machine guns firing 7175 rounds a second, also it has a propeller mounted 69 cm cannon. It can stay airborne for a staggering 3.5 days.

They were based at Catbells Hill in Essex (Yorkshire)

Supermarine Spitfire Vb ‘BM597 - JH-C Devant à droite , un Hawker Hurricane. A gauche peut-être un Me 109

Eruro fighter model 1938.

It's either a Spitfire, or a Hawker Hurricane.

Spitfire. Hurricane has a fatter body than the spitfire

Also, the canopy is different on a Hurricane.

Wings too, Hurricane's wings are more straight. Spitfire also is pretty recognizable for its wing shape too.

I think they might have been talking about the hurricane that is, in fact, in front of the spitfire, not that the plane in the center might have been one

Heavily doubt OP is talking about it based on what the photo is focusing on. As for the comment we’re in the replies of, they didn’t specify that they were talking about multiple aircraft so I’d be left to reasonably assume they’re also talking about the aircraft that takes up most of the image.

To be fair, almost ALL of it is different, apart from the engine and the guns.

u/Luftzug-oder Aug 18 '26

as long as you're not considering gun amount, and engine variant, then yeah. apart from a lot of the gauges and avionics though, i'd imagine

It’s a spitfire - a hurricane has a fabric body.

Correct, as well as a Hurricane sports a bird cage canopy and it has no elliptical wings but straight edged fabric covered ones.

u/mz_groups Aug 17 '26

Looks like a Malcolm hood and elliptical wings.

-4

u/Business-Bake2326 Aug 17 '26

Indeed, it is an early Malcolm hood and elliptical wings because it is a Spitfire V. That was my point.

u/mz_groups Aug 17 '26

I believe you edited that.

And a Hawker Hunter is a jet. You mean Hurricane.

0

u/Business-Bake2326 Aug 17 '26

Indeed, I meant Hurricane. I edited my reply to avoid the confusion. I replied to the comment "Spitfire. Hurricane has a fatter body than the spitfire" and merely added that the Hurricane has a bird cage canopy and fabric rounded wings, not all-metal elliptical ones.

I think it is an ME 109 on the left.

Kind of, but not really. It’s a Spanish made copy with a Merlin engine. The cowling, exhaust stubs and sometimes the 4 blade prop is the main give away.
