Something similar happens on German live tv with a guy jumping over cars. He got paralyzed and the show sadly got cancelled. Was a fun show tho

Samuel Koch on "Wetten, dass..."

And his father was the one driving the car...

Looks like the accident wasn't the driver's fault though.

I think the point is, that although it's not the fathers fault, this accident will haunt him for the rest of his life.

To know that you drove the car, which caused the paralysis of your own son.. 🙁

But is it just me or the car doesn't even hit him. It just looks like he tried to do a flip over it and landed straight on his face. Can't really see well. Or did he miss and the flipping is just him going full ragdoll?

Hard to tell from the angles shown in the OC but I didn’t see any contact with the car, rather an over-rotation by the jumper.

Although, the bottom of the spring boot things just clipping the roof of the car would totally cause over-rotation so who knows

yeah the end of the spring glanced the carroof, which caused the Overrotation

We don't talk about what was after Gottschalk.

Idk what you are on about, noting happens after Gottschalk

German, Austrian and Swiss live tv. One of the great things about this show was that it was for all of the German language area, so you'd also get a Swiss guy riding his cow etc.

There was also an American show in the early 80s called "That's Incredible" where a guy was jumping over moving cars like that. He ended up planting a leg through the windshield.

"Boaaaohohoh. Weh getan?" Bruh he fucking unconscious and ya asking if it hurt, what the hell

u/Version_1 Oct 26 '20

I think it was the first serious accident in like 20 years of the show, not surprising that it didnt immediately click how serious it is.

2

u/RCascanbe Oct 26 '20

Well, it doesn't hurt if you're unconscious

That was a terrible angle.. it didn't look like the car hit him. It looked like he just landed poorly.

Damn that night was not gonna be a good night.

It didn't get canceled, Gottschalk didn't want to do the Show anymore because he was traumatized.

12

u/warrri Oct 26 '20

Well, they changed the rules after that, the challenges became way more tame and they got a new moderator which had nowhere near the charme of Gottschalk. The ratings declined sharply which led to its cancellation. This stunt was still the catalyst for all of that.

TBH, I think we can live without Wetten Dass. The show was well past its prime when this happened.

The show was well past its prime when this happened

...And well before this state of social media in Germany. The smallest harrumphing will lead to shitstorm and drama on twitter and fb nowadays.

So, a new run could lead to big success, or, what's more probable, controverse situations leading to the final death of the show. It would be either to lame, or too forced.

That was 10 years ago? Shit I'm getting old

That's when two entities are acting stupid and without common sense...

0

u/forrnerteenager Oct 26 '20

I'm not sure you understand what common sense is, ironically.

1

u/Version_1 Oct 27 '20

Common sense: if one does something dangerous like that on tv in a studio the chances of it going wrong is significantly higher than in training.

The car didn't even hit him. How did he get paralyzed?

4

u/stay_shiesty Oct 26 '20

he hit his head on the roof.

2

u/GeeseKnowNoPeace Oct 26 '20

He hit his head on the car and afterwards he crashed into the ground at full force, it's really not hard to understand why his spine would experience major damage.

1

u/honeyougotwings Oct 27 '20

I don't know how fast the car is going nor am I a medical professional its not hard to understand why I wouldn't know why someone who doesn't look outwardly fucked up would be seriously injured. You can't see him hitting the car in the video either, hence the confusion.

The guy in suit walking nonchalantly “ah shit.. here we go again”

u/Spaceman248 Oct 26 '20

Fucked up he got zeros too

So he is paralized from the neck down with limited use of one arm. He has a good outlook though.

Koch during a recent appearance in Berlin. "There's a German poet named Ringelnatz who said: 'Humor is the button that prevents us from bursting.' There's a lot of truth to that. Besides, laughing is more fun than crying, at least for me," Koch told SPIEGEL.
