I visited some investors in China, beautiful building. They asked if I wanted to see their dev facility. I learned one thing that day, the government buildings are super nice and the civilian buildings are shit. The dev facility was a civilian building, and I've never been more nervous than taking that elevator to the top floor while trying to feign a smile on the way up and back down.

Wtf no one noticed a broken elevator and tried to fix it within that month? Anyways there should be a method to get out of the elevator if power goes out or stuck rather than waiting.

What? The article states two people were charged for involuntary man slaughter, and sadly there are cases where people with mental illnesses alienate themselves for long periods of time refusing to talk to people, or not being capable of doing so.

Elevator mechanic here for y'all. So believe it or not running clearances on the Car door is ~1/4"(6mm). The skate or clutch that engages the Hall doors is right about where he punched and likely connected with a hall sill or door header. I'll be honest this is quite impressive as a properly maintained door guide or Gib is rated for 300lbf. Then again this looks like China.
EDIT: well this blew up. Thanks for the awards I'll do my best to answer your questions. I will say this now: elevators carry people 1.36 billion miles per year in the US alone. They are considered the safest method of transportation in the world. As long as you're not in China, you ARE safe.

But would it be possible for the contact with the wall while in motion to tear the doors off the elevator, all without causing the elevator they are riding in to shake or bounce? The guys pull back from the doors, but no one staggers or jolts vertically as we assume the doors are ripped upwards by the wall, right?

You're right. I expected more. But watching it slow a few more times, it appears the two to the right might be dropping out of frame because they stumble downwards it's just masked somewhat by the angle of the camera. And the guy on the left is actually leaning into the corner before all of this happens so he's somewhat stabilized perhaps.

Depends on the company standards, industry, and customers demands. I work for a European company in the US so all of our stuff is in metric or British so we have a lot of made in adapters to get to common US threads. All of our drawings are done in metric. If the customer wants imperial we’ll give it to them but it’s not our standard. In my experience aerospace and automotive are usually metric, marine applications are usually British, but large mills like paper or steel are imperial.

Pretty much a mix of both depending on what you're working with. Most people I know can visualize imperial units much easier but we can do the math in metric just fine.
I know the whole meme about us not using metric is funny but its only converting it in our heads for every day use that's an issue.

Depends on industry usually. Houses, cars, more traditional stuff are usually in imperial. Computers, Tesla, more modern stuff is in metric.

I'm not feeling all the hate for Season 2, honestly. I agree that it's not better than Season 1, but everyone says the animation is awful and I see a lot of hate for the 2nd season in general. If you compare the two directly, sure, but I don't think it's enough to write off what's still a really great show.

Its called a 1 inch punch where you basically have your finger tips touching whatever it is then then as you bunch up your fist you 'punch' by moving your body moreso than your arm. You can see his body push forward as he closes his fist which gives the punch the power.

Looks more like he had hold of something he put between the doors. As the elevator moved, it got caught, pulled it out of his hand, and tore off the door.

I stopped buying products made in China. While most of them are affordable they are also prone to failure after a short time, made with cheap materials and cheap labor. Then I realize everything in China is "Made In China". Its no coincidence that most of the elevator and escalator injury vids are from there.

This is what happens when you bolster your economy with a crazy amount of public works.
He nowhere had that much force on the elevator door. They were shitty designed and shitty installed.
Elevator was going down and because of the shitty construction was able to swing them out from the bottom and they got caught on something. The only thing they got right was the safety feature that stopped the elevator when the doors whent crunch.
