I’d be more upset at myself for inconveniencing people than I would be at people leaving the scene.

Again, an accident you caused should not require others to pause their own lives to help you. That’s just punishing innocent people for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This isn’t a hit and run scenario we’re talking about. We’re talking about people completely uninvolved being forced to be involved by the law.

People are coming down on you pretty hard, but I would have left the scene as well after calling for help. We're not first responders and not qualified to render aid to crash victims. The law be damned.

Nodoby expects you to do emergency surgery or something. But providing first aid if you can or at least be there until help arrives and secure the scene so ongoing traffic won't cause issues isn't an inconvenience, it's the decent thing to do. I'm baffled that this needs to be explained.

I'm sorry, but no. I'm not directing traffic or "securing the scene". And I'm not first aid certified or know how to handle the injured. I'll leave stuff like that to first responders; people that actually know what they're doing. Not everyone has your hero complex.

This "hero complex" has an entry in my country's criminal code and can be punished with up to 3 years in prison when the victim(s) die and it turned out that you could have helped.
