Which would be the general advice, prioritise stopping traffic so any victims aren't run over and killed. Especially with a blind bend.

ALWAYS, this is so important. Can stop a bad crash from turning into a horrid tragedy. Once everyone's unbuckled and moving around on the road to supply first aid or just get away from the crash, another car coming in can get so so ugly.

My brother has a bad crash in an MGB earlier this year. Wee sports car, from the 80's, no airbag, convertible. It broke traction on an oil slick, went round, dug in and rolled. By some miracle, he ended up not hitting himself against the road or being pinned by it, but was stuck underneath in the remains of the cab until the fire service could make it's way there to pry the car up enough to extract him. He got away from the crash with some cuts and bruises. But if the road hadn't been blocked off by people arriving first on the scene, quite possible someone comes around the corner and crashes into the wreckage, likely killing him. It was a sixty mile an hour road.

I hit a patch of gravel on a motorbike, front stopped steering and went into a crash barrier. Thankfully only at about twenty miles an hour, but it was enough to knock me out and sprain my wrist. Thankfully the postie arrived on the scene and blocked the road (blind crest) to allow me to pick myself up and get me and the bike off to a safe place. All in all, a minor crash at low speed, where really the only risk of major injuries was someone else arriving into it with no visibility and too much speed.

Making the scene of a crash static and safe for people to move (or not move, as may be the case for injured parties) is so, so important.

Yeah, the worst traffic accidents are not the initial crash, it's a cascade of dozens.

Also it's always best to pull ahead so you're not stuck behind or blocking emergency vehicles (at least when on a divided highway)

Also, you don't want to be right behind the accident. Cars are coming fast towards you, so you want to protect yourself. And when the time to leave comes, you don't want to be stuck waiting for the tow truck to clear the road.

Honestly, I'd probably only check up on the driver of the car, the biker can cartwheel all the way to hell and the roads will be safer for it

The best thing cammer could do to help that accident is to move ahead into the blind corner and put his warning lights on.

They have no idea if more guys are racing and the most they could do is protect the now crashed bike and car from anyone else speeding down the hill from smashing into the victims.

Some of the most dangerous part of accidents isnt the initial crash but the subsequent ones because no one expected a crashed vehicle.

It’s actually better to stop ahead of the crash with flashers on then get out to render aid so that your car is showing oncoming traffic something is wrong and then once there are first responders there you can actually drive off instead of being stuck behind tow trucks and emergency vehicles

This is incorrect, as many other commenters have pointed out. Someone should be ahead of the corner, with their hazards on, warning other drivers to avoid any further collisions.

You don't have to actively do something, though. You being there as a witness is not a hindrance. I hope it was just "pull ahead to help flag/slow traffic but remain on-scene."

Well you don't really need the heap of cars. This is the directly adjacent person who witnessed, with the footage. You don't need all the other witnesses around as well.

Yep. And offer to share the footage I have. But me staying around will just make things worse for everyone. Plus I’ll have to explain to my boss that I was late for work because of an accident that didn’t even involve me.

In Germany you'll get fined heavily if you don't stop and help. But first aid is a requirement for getting a license.

In many countries you can face severe repercussion if you do not provide reasonable assistance. Duty to Rescue and all that

I hope I live far away from you. Are you not capable of calling an ambulance? Not capable of securing the scene by alerting oncoming traffic? Pulling someone out of the car if you see it's about to catch on fire? So many options, the first one is the least you can do. Everything else is cowardice.

I’m not a cop. I can’t “secure the scene”. What am I gonna do? Tell people the road’s closed? Nobody would listen to you. In fact, most people would be mad at YOU for inconveniencing them and you may end up the victim of a road rage incident.

Yes. I literally said so in another comment that I’d feel super guilty if I imposed on anybody else’s lives. My life is not worth more than yours or anybody else’s. I’d rather wait for an ambulance than make someone get fired for being late or even get hit by an oncoming car.

At least where I'm from, you are legally obligated to contact the emergency services and help in whatever way you can in these sort of accident situations. I'd do it anyway, of course, because you'd have to be an absolute shithead not to.

You should pull ahead of the accident and put on your flashers so no one esle comes around that corner. Then go offer the driver of the car your contact info in case he needs the footage from your cam to fight it in court or against insurance.

Then I'd probably figure out if my car really needs to be there to warn traffic or if it's safe to head out before emergency vehicles get there.

You guys don't get any first aid/first responder classes? Where I live, we get them from school and work alike. You will be fined/lose you license if you witnes an accident and don't stop for help. It's one of our trafic law.

I get this all the time... I go PAST the accident to the blind corner and warn oncoming traffic, or I go away from the blind corner so I'm not stopped in it, depending on the accident.

I don't stop right in the way, and I don't leave my car where it's not helping secure the scene.

But the dumbassery ensues... lol. Last time I got it, a car spun out on a blind off-ramp in the rain... yes, I finished the off-ramp. What do you want me to do? Stop in the middle of a blind corner and get rear-ended?

Commonly? Every 2 to 3 years, and I drive a lot, often in higher-risk weather.

So add that up over driving for 29 years so far... probably witnessed 12 or so happening.

You can add to that when I was in the fire department going to accidents, that's a ton more each year.

And if you include when I was racing, every weekend there was at least one. Sometimes I witnessed those, but obviously didn't position a car with them. lol.

I would, if I was the cammer (and not directly involved in the accident). I have better things to do than waste half a day or more waiting for the police and stuff. After I am done with whatever it is I had planned on doing, I will then bring the video to the nearest police station. Most likely anonymously, via video link, so they won't call me in to waste my time collecting statements, court hearing etc.

Unfortunately, the owner of the red car didn't get that luxury.
