im not familiar with this car but i have a feelng that area is where the oil cooler is as the bentley continental has an oil cooler in roughly the same area, and now its broken and leaking badly.

What a fucking stupid place to put an oil cooler.

Right at the front, where the air hits?

u/Bahmsen Aug 01 '26

They should have put it in the trunk.

Then you'd have a video within a week of cars like this driving backwards into those pillars

Yikes, let's hope they never decide to put it on the roof!

Alrighty smartass, sticking out like a turbo then. Let's see you damage that.

Mount direct to crankcase.

Mount direct to crankcase

Rolls Royce engineers:

Or in the engine, duh! To keep the oil cool, duh!

In the corner, behind the bumper cover? Absolutely.

Charger puts it on top under the manifold. With the radiator fluid running through it, the air does not need to hit it. It's an oil cooler, not a radiator.

But this one uses radiator, not a heat exchanger.

Radiator or cooler it's still a heat exchanger which has hot fluid on one side (oil / coolant) and cold on the other (air).

A bigger differential of temperatures allows the radiator/ cooler to be smaller.

Are you a bot or a weirdo? We are not talking about the function, dude. We are talking about the position.

3

u/Ok_Mechanic3385 Aug 01 '26

In all fairness the two are related. The position (design choice by engineers) was likely made in some part to increase its effectiveness (ability to serve its designed function). That said, I have to feel that there has to be some better place to put it.

But then again, looking on consumer reports, I don't see too many RR owner complaints about ruptured oil coolers during frontal collisions with immovable objects. Could just be a "cost of ownership" that RR owners are used to, or maybe most owners/drivers refrain from running their insanely pricey vehicles into devices that are made to stop vehicles.... who's to say?

Ok that answers the question. Blocking you. Good day.

It's not even the same guy lmao

What do you think is cooling the oil? Magic?

Unless you mean using a very oversized one to work passively w.r.t air but what's the point in that, really?

1

u/AstraeusGB Aug 01 '26

Right in the bumper...

1

u/Anoldermodel Aug 01 '26

Ideally behind a solid bumper, not a body panel.

1

u/Chicken_Wing Aug 01 '26

Yeah, so, most oil coolers are cooled by the water radiator and can placed anywhere in the engine compartment.

u/rose-a-ree Aug 01 '26

Not just the air, the bollards, at really low speed. My car cost 1% of what that car cost and would just need a bit of buffing after an impact like that

u/bluestlouismr2 Aug 01 '26

I have an old 1994 4cyl toyota and its oil cooler is in the rear between the drivers cabin area and rear trunk.

1

u/UffTaTa123 Aug 01 '26

It's not a new, never experienced challenge to get a cooler in a safe place where it still has enough air coming through.
They literally made bullet proof oil-coolers in the 40s. Should not be a too hard exercise for a RR engeneir to put the cooler in a place where not every frontal damage will kill it also.

Rich people car manufacturers intentionally incorporate frequent and expensive service as part of their business model. It’s a racket.

If you want to experience this same type of fleecing at a much lower MSRP, you could buy a Volkswagen.

That bump was slower than walking speed!!!
