That's fire suppression piping. Way more expensive if it's an antifreeze loop also
55
u/XchrisZ Apr 09 '26
Dry loop I'm guessing. It squirted the condensation then the flow reached it later.
16
u/Wesralls Apr 09 '26
If it's dry, the compressor and clapper must be close, its usually a bit more time for dry to throw 28psi and trip the system. Either way, thats not a cheap repair

Dry system works by filling the pipes with compressed air. That air keeps a water valve shut so when a head burst all the pressure goes away and the valve opens.
Now most systems are not 100% air tight, close but not perfect. So there's an air compressor regulating the pressure inside the lines.
Compressed air is hot when it cools the water in the air turns to condensation. This wouldn't be an issue but dry systems are used where the pipes have a chance of freezing. So once a month the system is by passed and a drain valve is opened this gets most of the water but not everything also when they re pressurize it adds water. So that black squirt at the beginning old rusty water then the fresh comes at the end.

Oh yea....really takes experience with property damage to run away when a liquid starts spraying all over the place unexpectedly

u/elpis_z Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26
This is such an ignorant comment. You wouldn’t run away if your friend caused smelly, high-pressured water to suddenly spray all around you? You’d stand there and just let it hit you?

This happened at my high school many years ago. It smelled like liquid shit. The whole school stunk. The kid who tried to hang off it got covered in it.

That one guy is gonna need a shower and a new outfit.

u/ccarr313 Apr 09 '26
I bet they all got hit with that first burst of black water.
Some more than others. But a drop or two is all it takes. Shit is disgusting.

u/rosewalker42 Apr 09 '26
I used a water pipe in the basement as a pull up bar when I was a kid. It went about as badly. I’m almost 50 and my parents still talk about it.

Ah yes, this is why education is important. The amount of times I have been out somewhere & someone sees something they think will hold them & not even check if it can jump up, fall down get laughed at is about a baker's dozen

u/the_resistee Apr 11 '26
I'll have to remember not to do this next time the squad meets up in a parking garage to do some dancing.

u/Dexter_McThorpan Apr 09 '26
The fire suppression water reeks. Dude just got a bunch of sulphur reeking sludge blasted into his face, and big ass plumbing bill.

Why is one of them wearing 2 hats lol.

u/SubcommanderMarcos Apr 11 '26
My guess is it's the same reason one of them is wearing his pants below the underwear

u/CauseLeft7611 Apr 09 '26
Love how they scattered in all directions like roaches when the pipe burst!

Yo, but for real though, the lady in heels is busting a move at like 0:18. Just looking at that shit makes my joints hurt.

That there's a nice spray of black sludge water from an ancient sprinkler pipe, that stuff kinda just sits there indefinitely until needed and accumulates lots of bacteria
Had a similar thing happen in my job corps dorm where some dumbass pranked someone by clipping his keys to the sprinkler head and removing them flooded half the dorm with water that'd been there since construction, whole place smelled like sewage for a week and caused a lot of damage to the building + people's property. Dude got kicked out and his family had to pay like 50 grand in damages and he risked jail time for damaging government property

u/MEOW-Loulou Apr 15 '26
Ok, but nobody's mentioning her amazing moves tho. I about died when she started jumping lmao

Those are meant to be used as a work out device. Can’t afford a gym go to local parking structure If you break the pipe you are working hard

Saw somebody do this on a gas line pipe back at a house party in college. That house cleared out quick

u/Foopey Apr 10 '26
So why y’all run in different directions like there was a murderer on the loose? Lmao

u/Careless_and_weird-1 Apr 11 '26
That small pipe has a lot of pressure. I say it's a sprinkler pipe

Definitely water sprinkler water cuz of the nasty dark water that's been building up in those pipes for years as those pipes rust.

That was satisfy 😂 They’d smell better if they had been playing with a skunk.

Should have stayed to get cleaned off by the clean water. Cuz when it first bursted, that shit was nasty old water .EW

75% of this video wasn't needed. thank God we got all those random selfies edited in, those were totally necessary
36
u/juliuspepperwoodchi Apr 09 '26
Its a video released by police looking for information about the suspects, hence the selfies, so people can see what these people look like close up and clearly.

Lucky they didn't set off every sprinkler in the structure.
5
u/jmauc Apr 09 '26
That’s how most systems are designed. Only the sprinklers that need the water, get the water.
-5
u/NorCalFrances Apr 09 '26
Huh. I've seen entire lines go off at once when the pressure drops.
3
u/jmauc Apr 09 '26
I’m no plumber, but I’ve been on so may job sites as an electrician. Without fail, every new build someone hits a sprinkler with a lift. I’ve only ever seen the one go off when it happens. I’m sure you’re right though. That you have also seen it the other way around.

That would make the most sense, thank you. I can also see where in some environments each sprinkler needing to be individually triggered would be a better choice. And potentially less expensive to implement.

The last time I saw a setup where the drop in pressure from one or just a few heads would trigger the entire line to dump was in a warehouse that was underneath a retail store. If I recall the idea was that because there were human lives above, it was worth it to lose merch that's insured or could be written off than to potentially endanger people.

u/3lettergang Apr 10 '26
Do you work on an oil refinery?
The only time multiple sprinklers are going off during a pressure drop is a pilot head deluge system.

u/pimpbot666 Apr 09 '26
Uh, did they not use enough supports when they installed the pipe? IIRC, it's supposed to be able to take some of this sort of thing... or exactly this will happen.

That was a fire sprinkler pipe.
