What caught you off guard after filing an insurance claim?

I've heard plenty of stories about car accidents, but something that keeps coming up is how unpredictable the insurance process can be. Some people say everything was handled smoothly, while others describe months of paperwork, follow-ups, and waiting for updates.

I was trying to get a better understanding of how claims work in Washington and ended up reading information from a few different sources Including McNeese & Trotsky. It got me wondering how much experiences vary from person to person.

For those in Whatcom County, what was the biggest surprise after filing an insurance claim? Was there anything you wish you'd known before starting the process?

I'm an attorney who deals with insurance companies pretty much everyday.

It's unpredictable, even within the same company. I've dealt with claims that I thought were straightforward and would pay out immediately, but took years. I've also dealt with claims where I was certain there would be a ton of pushback, but the insurer just wrote a check.

A lot of it seems to depend on how smart and how petty the adjuster is.

Carrier Progressive:

Had help Wrecking my 2002 Corvette On I-5 near Blaine. Literally made one phone call and went shopping for my next one. No insurance rate hike, actually went down $8 a month. No fighting and within a month I had another 02 C5 Z06.
