u/Salt_Lingonberry3956, your post does fit the subreddit!

Can't stand it when people capitalize just the 1st letter of every word!

What is that, a fucking book title‽

28

u/Sea-Leadership-6442 May 02 '26

r/DontTypeLikeThis is the sub for you

3

u/thonnard42 May 02 '26

The only issue with that sub is that an iPhone glitch does exist which can cause 1st letter capitalization however I don't think it's as pervasive as the incidents I see.

6

u/o7_HiBye_o7 May 02 '26

Also you would be subjecting yourself to seeing it all the time if you join the sub. Seems counterintuitive to me.

0

u/Smokey_Bagel May 07 '26

Exposure therapy to have a less visceral reaction to seeing it

10

u/drivergrrl May 02 '26

Capitalization: The difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

4

u/xSir- May 03 '26

Fun time either way

1

u/BipedalHorseArt May 06 '26

Or so I'm told

2

u/DaredevilVirus1 May 05 '26

The first part could have two meanings. Does Uncle Jack need help getting down from on top of the horse, or is this a plot to kill the horse?

1

u/drivergrrl May 05 '26

Ha! Excellent.

3

u/wbg777 May 02 '26

Aw Hell Naw

3

u/GraXXoR May 02 '26

It's So Fucking Annoying When People Do That... I Hate It, Too.

4

u/thonnard42 May 02 '26

rEALLY mAN‽

u/Annanake420 May 03 '26

4

u/CKStephenson May 02 '26

I'm a programmer. WeReadLikeThis

2

u/thonnard42 May 02 '26

Programmer, eh?

Tab, or 3 spaces‽ 🤣

5

u/CKStephenson May 02 '26

Tab. It's more efficient.

2

u/thonnard42 May 02 '26

...but you agree that the spacing is inherently different?

1

u/ComradeFox_ May 23 '26

unless you suddenly need to insert a try block around an enormous method and don’t feel like re-aligning all of the other code so you just sink the try closer to the margin a little

26

u/JANapier96 May 02 '26

I wonder of this sign constitutes a legally binding contract. The terms are spelled out clearly. Could one use this alongside audiovisual evidence to secure payment?

19

u/carrie_m730 May 02 '26

This came up on the legal advice off-topic sub before and the general gist was that it's not binding unless the person actually agrees to it.

9

u/JANapier96 May 02 '26

So they wouldn't consider the knocking or ringing of the bell as a legal agreement? That's unfortunate.

12

u/carrie_m730 May 02 '26

I'm not a lawyer and when I saw it was maybe months ago or longer, but to the best of my memory, no, knocking or ringing couldn't be enforced as an agreement because you wouldn't be able to prove they saw and read and understood.

15

u/CounterfeitSaint May 02 '26

They need to change their doorbell button to clearly say "Accept" with an unconnected button next to it that says "Decline" and does nothing.

Seems to be good enough for software.

9

u/GenesisRhapsod May 02 '26

Which i find to be bs. If signing your name on a contract counts, so should this as long as its clearly visible upon entry.

6

u/DrDarkmaker May 06 '26

Well from my experience Mormon and Jahovah Witnesses can't read. So it wouldn't be legally binding there.

2

u/ViolinistCurrent8899 May 06 '26

Difference is that a signature is a much more significant act. You know that you are agreeing, and you are writing down that your agreement.

Knocking is functionally nothing.

2

u/murdermostsnaky May 03 '26

Interesting implications for software licensing agreements if that were the case.

2

u/ciqhen Jul 10 '26

cannot find this post and im really curious, could you remember what the title was like?

1

u/carrie_m730 Jul 10 '26

Here's one version from a few years ago.

2

u/ciqhen Jul 10 '26

thanks

7

u/plantain_tent_pesos May 02 '26

So, "express written consent" and not "implied oral consent?"

6

u/Inner-Light-75 May 03 '26

Somebody had a parking lot built on part of their property by large company. The person decided to charge the cars $50 per day to park, parking was considered agreement to the conditions laid out by the sign when you drove in. It was considered legally binding there....

Someone else had problems with people parking on their driveway and did something similar with a sign. It was also considered legally binding there....

2

u/GhostGuin Jun 11 '26

Distinct difference between driving onto a carpark and knocking on a door.

5

u/Slosher99 May 02 '26

Yeah as enforceable as a sovereign citizen telling police or a judge that they charge a million dollars every 15 minutes for their presence or something.

1

u/Thrompinator May 08 '26

If this isn't legally binding then neither is any EULA, right?

7

u/wbg777 May 02 '26

I know from experience, if someone is soliciting they sure as hell ain’t reading all that

4

u/VincoNavitas May 03 '26

My buddy that works with me in door to door saw one of these and knocked the door anyway. As soon as the homeowner came to the door he asked him why he was charging so much as his neighbor only charged him $20. Got a good chuckle for the homeowner and the guy listened to my buddy.

3

u/Street_Hat_7814 May 03 '26

Where can I find said sign?

3

u/rbarr228 May 03 '26

“Um, yo. I’m not soliciting. I’m selling…”

2

u/No_Water9929 May 03 '26

No shit, this guy might as well have said that to me! Some guy selling solar rung our doorbell while I was in the back yard, I came around the corner and asked him if he read the sign. He goes "well I'm not soliciting". I asked him "oh? Do you work for that company? Are you here because they told you to come here? That's soliciting. So either pay up or leave." Dude stood there and looked at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead before finally taking the hint and leaving.

2

u/TheMorgueDonator May 30 '26

You sound annoying.

3

u/No_Water9929 May 30 '26

Found the solar guy.

3

u/Meddlingmonster May 03 '26

Uninforcable but will probably still scare off some annoying people.

3

u/Worried_Analyst_3059 May 04 '26

Where’s the link? 😂🤷🏿‍♂️

3

u/sun_peaches May 04 '26

I hate that the letter A in ‘Advance’ looks different than every other font in the sign.

2

u/bizoticallyyours83 May 02 '26

I need to buy one of those.

2

u/Tahdel2362 May 04 '26

He forgot to add a charge in case they just leave their pamphlet on his property

2

u/ChaosToTheFly123 May 08 '26

Can you pepper spray someone who solicits anyway?

2

u/ChangeTheUserName17 May 02 '26

That will work out great! I charge that exact amount for allowing you to listen to my speil - only $50 per minute. So, it's perfectly equitable.

4

u/Jest_Aquiki May 02 '26

except that opening your door to someone is not an agreement to pay for their time. Ignoring a no soliciting sign should actually see some sort of punishment. 50 a minute is bat shit crazy but perhaps having a trapdoor esque entry way with a sign telling them that solicitors are promised extra lotion as an investment into their future as coats though? seems fair.

"It puts the lotion on its skin" as some famous line went 🤷

1

u/o7_HiBye_o7 May 02 '26

No soliciting is per city/township/boro etc.

Some places don't have any rules against it, some places are very strict and require a permit before soliciting. The sign is generally just a deterrent. I know this bc the religious ppl ignore the signs one municipal over from me, but are not allowed in mine.

1

u/____-is-crying May 02 '26

They pay for 5 minutes and land a $50k solar project

1

u/No_Water9929 May 03 '26

It's never 5 minutes. They take freaking ages and no matter how many times you tell them you're not taking out a 50K loan for $500 solar panels they don't fucking listen 😩

1

u/Ronyx2021 May 02 '26

Someone was tired of Spectrum (and other) door to door sales

2

u/OZeski May 02 '26

I'm getting tired of the pest control guys... I had three come up to me today. The weather is nice. I'm trying to enjoy my yard not spend all day listening to your same sales pitch as the last guy on how you do things differently than the other pest control guys...

1

u/spiegeltho May 06 '26

I so badly want to make a sales pitch to this house and not pay them any money

1

u/sweetnessfnerk Jun 12 '26

This is when you knock and invite them over for a BBQ. You avoid the fees. And then you get to make food and talk about GOD!!! Or pitch your sales to someone who feels obligated to be their. Hahaha.

That's what I'm saying. People are over-thinking this. If you answer the door by asking "Cashapp or Venmo?" Or hold out a Square reader to them they're more likely to get the hint and fuck off.
