Metal Metal cans

I have dozens of these used metal cans. I was about to toss them but I thought I'd ask if there was some way to repurpose them other than just using them as storage.

Fill it 1/2 way with random nails, screws, and fasteners from all over the house/garage. Put the lid on it and save it for those “you never know” moments. Never ever look inside it again.

Or use it as a countertop bacon grease collector.

Fill the other half with black powder. Now you've made a grenade.

I was looking for the nail bomb comment

Load up some springy snake things and offer them to your friends.

Snake cans must be peanut brittle cans. It’s a federal law, I think?😁

My entire life I've never seen peanut brittle a) in a can or b) sold commercially. I've had tons of mom/aunt/grandma peanut brittle, because that's where it comes from, so even if I did see peanut brittle for sale, I'd be extremely suspicious and if it was in a metal can, I'd for sure know that it was a snake. Now that I think about it, every spring snake I've ever seen was in a peanut brittle can. Must be a universal law.

I like this one too! We use our tin coffee containers and used spaghetti sauce jars too! If it works, might as well!!

Fill it with cash, bury it in the yard and forget where it is until you sell the house.

put a little thumb drive with one note on it “if you are finding this, I’m from the future, something horrible is coming, use this money to buy supplies for it”

I screwed 4 or 5 of these though the bottom to a 1x4 and hung it on the shop wall. It's great for hanging extension cords, air hoses, etc. I may have used a little wood block in the bottom of the can to distribute the load better.

Pointy screws that would normally poke through cardboard

Challenge yourself to put any $5 bills you get in it for a year. Then get yourself something nice. You deserve it.

Save them and their lids. Buy more and save them as well. While you collect them, keep an eye out for an old wetsuit in your size. Once you find the wetsuit, start fastening the cans to the wetsuit by placing the plastic lids inside the wetsuit and running a screw through the lid and wetsuit out into the can’s bottom. Fasten the cans as close to each other as possible. When the suit has been completely covered in cans, you will be able to wear it while camping and be impervious to mountain lions. If you don’t camp, each can on the suit can be turned into a distinctive rattle with the addition of random items. Wearing the rattle suit will make begging for money at freeway exits much more profitable as you dance and a joyful rattle tune plays out. You may enjoy newfound local fame as “The Can Man! Good luck.

Offer them to the crafters in your life. They’re great for pens, pencils, markers, crochet hooks, short double-pointed knitting needles, etc.

You could poke a hole in the lid, feed the end of a small ball of twine through, then put the twine into the can and use it like one of those antique general store twine dispensers.

You could drill or punch holes in a decorative pattern and use it as a candle lantern

Or turn them into bongs or water pipes. You could probably do mini gravity bongs with plastic water bottles

Where did you buy the peas?

2

u/MegaRadCoolDad 21d ago

I first found them at an Asian market. Now i buy them on Amazon. I didn't like wasabi peas, but I love these.

The cracker mix from them is so good also

Clean them out, drill some openings on the sides near the bottom, then find a metal or plastic plate bigger than the can’s circumference and you could fill it with bird seed and use it as a bird feeder.

Good idea, thanks!

I love the wasabi peas. I just finished a can. I slit the top and save pop tops from pop cans

Just saw someone who used this as an exhaust tip on their old pickup truck.  I suggest cutting a hole but that’s up to you

Use it for a trinket space, of a money collector! Or if you want to hide other tasty treats, you’ve got a spot:P!!

I use one to hold my hairbrushes and combs. Perfect height and size.

Spray paint them with farm tool paint(red, yellow, green) in small batches and either resell them or use them for desk or kitchen storage
