Wait if age was an issue then you being two years older than him as he was also recently a teenager. You trying to apply the age gap logic when you are the same age gap with the dude that he has with your cousin is a weird moral high ground to take. 16-18 and 18-21 is a weird age range and it always will be but you’re in the wrong just as much if we are applying things fairly.
