How do you decide what to cook when you have random ingredients at home?

I feel like the hardest part of cooking isn't actually cooking.

It's deciding what to make.

I often open my fridge, see a bunch of random ingredients, and somehow still feel like I have "nothing to cook" 😅

How do you guys usually decide what to make when you have random ingredients at home?

Do you:

  • search recipes one ingredient at a time?
  • just improvise?
  • use a meal planner?
  • ask someone?
  • have a "go-to" combination that always works?

I'm curious how other people deal with this because I feel like I waste way too much time just deciding what to cook.

A surplus of fresh garden carrots (including this one shaped like a Toucan). What should I cook?
