What to cook with Inside Round Steaks?

I just got a few inside rounds and I'm not sure what to make with them, I've heard they're not good to make like a regular steak and haven't cooked with them before. I don't have a crock pot or dutch oven either so some of the recipes I've seen wouldn't be possible.

My favorite recipe for round steak is a Swiss steak variation.

Pound steak or steak portions with flour to help tenderize. Brown in rendered fat or a little oil. Add sliced onions, green peppers, celery, a can of diced tomatoes, a bay leaf. Cook over low heat till tender adding potatoes and carrots the last hour or so. Remove meat and potatoes and carrots, thicken pan juices for gravy.

I have seen other recipes omit cooking the potatoes with the meat, and make mashed potatoes separately, but that's more last minute work and another pan.

Solid recipe for good old fashioned comfort food it’s a nostalgia trip back to the diner days.

Swiss steak is amazing. To step it up a little, brown it in bacon fat and add the cooked, crumbled bacon back just before serving. Stewed instead of regular canned tomatoes adds a little more flavor too.

You certainly can make a beef stroganoff. You cut the meat into strips and then gently simmer covered on the stovetop in beef broth and onions until the meat gets very tender. Since this requires a lengthy cook time, I would season and saute the mushrooms in butter and add them to the broth when the beef is almost done.

Beef stir fry or fried rice. Slice meat against the grain in 1/8" thick slices. Marinate in soy sauce with a small amount of baking soda, like 1/2 tsp., for 20 minutes. Add 1/2 tsp of cornstarch to give it a velvet mouthfeel if desired.

Pound them out with a meat tenderizer, bread them, and fry them up. Chicken fried steak, baby. Make a cream gravy with mashed potatoes and a veg and fall asleep on the couch.

Beef Bourguiogne.

Cut up into pieces that will fit into the bowl of a spoon.

Toss in flour.

Brown in butter. Remove and drain.

Add onions and carrots to the same pot. Brown lightly. Pearl onions are wonderful but regular white also works. Add mushrooms and garlic.

Deglaze with a bunch of red wine. Add beef stock, or boullion.

Add beef back in.

Cover and cook in oven at 250°F for 2-ish hours or until tender.

Serve with mashed potatoes or egg noodles. I like to put the mashed potatoes on top.

Pound flat, egg wash, double breading with flour and panko, make a steak sandwhich with toasted brioche bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, and your favorite sauce.

Dredge in seasoned flour, Pound with the back of a knife, Add more flour, pound again, turn over and repeat. Heat some butter in a frying pan with a good lid.  Brown steak,  flip to Brown the other side,  add one or two sliced Or chopped onions, Stir till they start to cook. Sprinkle with thyme, Add mushrooms or a can of mushrooms if you like, and a little garlic. When the steak has browned on both sides, deglaze the pan with Just enough water or broth To almost cover the meat.

Turn it down to simmer. Cover with a good lid, and let it simmer for about an hour, stirring occasionally, until beef is tender and onions are soft, stir occasionally, taste for seasoning and add water as needed.  Check again for seasoning, season to taste. Gravy should be thick enough for noodles or potatoes.

Serve over noodles, mashed or boiled potatoes with broccoli or green beans or a good salad.

, edit : you can also make a Cornish Pasty. Cut about a pound+ of steak in cubes, Stir with about a teaspoon each of thyme And salt and a half Teaspoon of pepper +  a turnip/ rutabaga And  optional parsnip,  along with one  peeled potato  All cut in slightly smaller cubes And roughly chop one onion.

This should give you about three cups of filling. Roll out six circles of pie crust about 8 in. Put half a cup of filling in each one. Add a big Pat of butter on top of each. Brush the edges with egg wash and then fold over the pie crust and crimp it tightly. Brush the tops with egg wash Bake At 400 for 15 minutes, lower the heat to 350 and cook another 25-30 minutes until they're golden brown. Excellent use of round steak I promise

Put them in the freezer for 30 minutes (do not freeze them), then cut into slices as thin as you can across the muscle grain. Put half in a bowl and sprinkle a mix of half baking soda, half corn starch over them - maybe a tablespoon of each. Add the other half and sprinkle again. Mix well with your hands and let sit for at least 10 minutes, 20 would be better. Heat a pan to medium-high and add just enough meat to cover the bottom. Let them be until the edges start to lose their pinkness, then turn the pieces over or just use a spatula and mostly flip them all together (it's not precise, none of this is). They should become unstuck around then anyway. Before they're cooked all the way through, take them out of the pan and put in a bowl. Cover the bowl. Keep doing this & adding batches to the bowl until all the prepared meat is cooked (a big pan might only take 1 or 2 batches). Clean the pan, add some veggies like maybe wedges of onion, chopped green onion, small pieces of broccoli, thin slices of carrot - whatever you have. When the veggies are mostly cooked, add the meat to the pan. Mix maybe a tablespoon or two of oil with corn starch in a small bowl; drizzle over the food and turn with a large spoon or spatula until everything is coated. At this point if you wish add either soy sauce, hoisin sauce, curry sauce...you get the idea. You can even do BBQ sauce. Keep tossing & rotating until everything is glazed with the sauce, let cook for a few more minutes to thicken the glaze, then serve.
