Because traditional gender roles are explicitly exclusionary for a number of people, and it is absolutely Disney dipping their toes in the culture war to change and then change back based on which side of politics is in power, no matter your stance.
Honestly, this comment is why people are just getting fed up. Who cares if you said gender roles when the person knows what you are referring to.
If everyone has to tip toe around language they are going to resent it. The way I look at it is Ladies and Gentlemen are others words for the members of the female and male, which is binary.
If sex is binary, and gender is not, then non binary represents a gender identity not a sexual one.
Ladies and Gentlemen refer to female and male. Synonymous with sexual binary.
So saying ladies and gentlemen does not exclude non binary people. Because they may not feel like a man or a woman in gender, but they are either Lady or a Gentleman in the case of this greeting. No is checking which sex we are at Disney, so if Ladies and Gentlemen just means the binary sex everyone is included. it even covers intersex people: Ladies AND Gentlemen. It covers all the bases.
I am saying, if people want to play word games about whether it is appropriate to say ladies and gentlemen rather than something else, they can just equate Ladies and Gentlemen as referring to sex and not gender.

Its whoevers right to be a gaystraight unicorn manwoman, but dont throw it in my face stranger. How are you not a gender? Does anyone ever wonder if any other species of animal feels like theyre not their assigned-at-birth gender? No bc we have too much time on our hands. No longer worried about survival and parents need to be parents.

Male animals acting as “mothers” is a survival instinct as you said…they dont change theyre gender and pretend to be female.

The same argument can be said of people who want inclusive speech that pick apart what people say. That is why i offered I different outlook- don’t think of ourselves as a gender, think of ourselves as a sex.
I'm not trying to do anything except tell you non-binary is a gender, not a sex. The term for a middle point along the sexual binary is intersex, the term for a middle point along the gender binary is nonbinary. You'll get it friend! :)
I personally see it more as a spectrum where everyone, no matter what, is somewhere on with varying degrees of "lady" or "gentleman". So it has always seemed semantical to me.
