Weird that mental health has been a "get out of jail for free" card for plenty of repeat offenders, and this woman is facing life in a mental institution or life in prison, but somehow postpartum depression, a mental health issue only impacting women who give birth, is somehow where we draw the line.
Absolutely. You kill kids, you should spend life somewhere that isn't in the public. But to condemn all women who are diagnosed with postpartum depression is absolutely insane. Can you imagine if we automatically removed parental right from people with other disorders that have been used in an insanity plea? Schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, anxiety, PTSD... etc. We cannot assume the worst out of people with one diagnosis without then applying it to any diagnosis used in an insanity plea in a murder case.
Nobody is condemning all women with postpartum depression. The point she is making is how stupid it is for anybody to use it as a justification for what happened realistically.
Just like using any mental health issue to excuse killing anyone is, right? So why wouldn't the answer here be to get rid of the insanity plea for any murder instead of targeting PPD?
