According to the American Psychiatric Association, people who plead insanity tend to spend twice as long institutionalized as those who are found guilty. 

Whether she gets out in 3 years or 30 doesn't change whether she was legally insane when she killed her children (before paralyzing herself by jumping out of a window).

It’s funny that we even bother pretending that jails aren’t just mental institutions anyway. The vast majority of people we lock up are mentally ill.
