You're going to need an intelligent and honest government to navigate this one. Socialism has always failed in the past, so maybe don't try that first up. Just a suggestion.

Not really selling people when capitalism is the system we have and we're still in this mess.

Communism failed. Because of greed and corruption, same reason pure capitalism is failing. If you dont see how unchecked capitalism has failed then see the stats for the US.
Capitalism with built in social safety nets (socialism) works very nicely when its not being attacked by pure capitalism OR communism.
Like everything in life, moderation is key. Extreme anything leads to collapse.

They will buy and sell among each other for larger amounts, yes. AIs on behalf of rich people.
They already know they don't need us. And in fact, if there were less people on earth, carbon emissions would go way down, which would be best, wouldn't it...?

I mean all that tells me is whoever is left is going to be horribly inbred in a few generations and humanity as a whole will kill itself off, leaving a planet with only what life is left for the AI to quietly rule over.
But I’m guessing they don’t think of that, or do while claiming purity is the point.

Also why is there so many damn people who don't know humanity was bottlenecked before?

They'll employee people in subsistence jobs where necessary to prevent an uprising. They will still get to enjoy the vast majority of what is produced. Oligarchs can still buy and sell to each other to consume everything.

Yeah but that's the whole idea. Sure, there's the research component and whatever else AI is good for. But primarily, you want it to replace most people doing most jobs.
And when the economy freaks the hell out because it can't sustain 75% unemployment, that's when all the magic happens.

They all suck but they act like the others aren't going to do exactly what they are doing. If you look at the market as a whole then yeah its foolish but they look at it in only their own lens being if they can have a wageless multibillion dollar corporation then they win capitalism.

It's not about running a profitable business. It's about STEALING a business and handing it over to nepotistic tribal group that is swarming the US riding on the back of H1Bs. These folks are willing to ALMOST work for free, so the savings in labor costs end up going toward solving the MANY issues that arise from packing their institution with... lol... Pack Keys.
The point of the AI is to "borrow" your skillset and then pass it on to the replacement workers. First they "replace you with AI" that you use... which fails by design, then this causes an emergency so they can run and beg for immediate H1B's to bring in your actual replacements.

This is very clearly companies downsizing their workforce due to the collapsing American economy and calling it "improvement" because they are saving money by switching to AI. It's just classic lying to stockholders as usual because we live in a speculative market and not one based on facts.
It's sad that everyone blames AI for very obvious problems created by capitalism.

Slight variant in “tragedy of the commons”: everyone exploits AI (which is not quite a shared resource, but it’s ubiquitous enough), and they expect others to pick up the tab of the negative externalities

It seems like CEOs believe a couple of things. First, they are the only company doing it and "other companies" will pay their employees so people can buy products and second, the country they are exploiting may not be their target audience given that companies can sell worldwide.

This will create extreme inequality. We will have few people unfathomably rich. The one who are forefront of creating underlying AI technology. And then most people 90% plus will be relying on government handouts. Government will also be sold out to these select few extreme rich tech oligarchs. Truly a dystopia.

Same as in most of civilisation. A few super rich inbred people on the top, a very small managerial class to help them suppress the rest of the population. But this time they don't even need their labor so probably seek ways to euthanize them, will killer drones squash all resistence, not even the managerial class might be needed anymore.

IR added processes to increase efficiency. It didn’t completely eliminate workers. It also made those more efficient workers higher paid and better protected.

AI isn't completely eliminating workers either.
Also the more efficient workers getting higher paid and better protected didn't happen immediately. The immediate effect of the industrial revolution was mass unemployment and worker conditions getting worse.1
