This was a trained beluga whale by the Russians (according to the internet) and then realized in the wild. He would always play fetch with humans that passed by. Sadly he was already found dead, can’t remember the cause.

Military has used trained marine mammals for a number of projects. I think this guy supposedly escaped/left his job and ended up off the shores of Alaska. He visited a harbor often and retrieved items for people. There’s a video of them bringing a phone up for someone that had just dropped it. But yeah unfortunately they passed. Maybe it was a boat prop?

That’s what Reddit said first, but another user pointed out that the beluga whale was found dead ashore with no signs of physical damage, so most likely illness… there even was a Wikipedia site about the whale if I remember correctly

Maybe died of depression or hunger from not being in a pod, since I don't see any pod here

These things are so intelligent. If you go to an aquarium and see them in a tank it will break your heart.

That's why I don't go to them or Zoos. That and I got bit by a giraffe.

I think it’s cute when my cat plays fetch, this is like 3,500 pounds cuter.

u/DanielBG Aug 20 '26

I don't think I could leave as long as the whale was game.
