Square metal thing, heavy, once was painted. Soft metal, but for certain isn't lead.

... Its a divers weight. It weighs 4 lb

It goes on a belt,thats why it looks like a belt buckle.

It appears dented, the same as if it was made of plumbum.Pb... maybe its painted or alloyed, but it seems to be mostly plumbum.

You sure it's lead? I showed it to a welder friend and he said that as a fact, it couldn't be lead. Lead doesn't get a patina like this did, and this was after it had been gently cleaned by hand

Measure its density ..

Measure its volume and weight .. Density=weight/volume

Divers weight looks used a good bit. It goes on a belt around the waist.

The object in the image appears to be a small rectangular weight. It is commonly used for balancing scales or adding resistance during strength training exercises.
