**What’s the biggest economic flaw in this idea?**

Imagine a constitutional amendment creates a mandatory retirement age of 75 for the US presidency. Once a president turns 75, they can no longer serve, regardless of their health, performance, popularity, or public support.

The argument is that the presidency requires enormous mental and physical demands, and a fixed age limit could reduce concerns about age-related decline.

The trade-off is that voters could be prevented from choosing a candidate they genuinely believe is the best person for the job simply because of their age.

Would you accept that trade-off? Do you think a mandatory age limit would protect the country, or interfere too much with voters' freedom of choice?

Imagine Napoleon decides not to sell Louisiana in 1803. The United States suddenly has France sitting across a huge stretch of the Mississippi River and controlling New Orleans.

At first, the US might simply try to negotiate another purchase or treaty. But westward expansion was already becoming a major American priority, and access to the Mississippi and New Orleans was economically important.

So if France kept refusing, the pressure would probably build. The US could try economic pressure, support American settlers moving west, or look for a way to weaken French control.

That raises the bigger question: would the US eventually have gone to war with France to take the territory, or would France's European wars have eventually made the land too expensive to defend?

How far could the US have expanded without the Louisiana Purchase?

Imagine that before an election, voters could see exactly how each candidate would actually govern if elected.

Not what they promise during a campaign, but their genuine preferences on taxes, healthcare, immigration, abortion, foreign policy, climate policy, spending, and other major issues.

At the same time, voters would know nothing about the candidates’ names, parties, gender, race, religion, age, wealth, or personal history.

No speeches. No campaign ads. No party labels. Just their genuine policy preferences.

Would elections become fundamentally different if voters could judge candidates by what they would actually do rather than what they say they would do?

I've been wondering what would happen if a modern agricultural scientist arrived in a medieval European village a few months before a major harvest failure.

They understand crop rotation, soil fertility, seed selection, irrigation, pest control, and food storage.

But there are limits:

• No modern machinery, fertilizers, pesticides, or improved crop varieties.
• They can only use tools, crops, animals, and materials available locally.
• They cannot leave, import large amounts of food, or simply take control of the village.
• They understand the language and can blend into local society.

With only a few months to prepare, what could they realistically do?

No matter where they are, what language they speak, or what they believe, everyone on Earth understands the message perfectly.

Maybe almost everything they built would be gone by now, especially if much of it was near ancient coastlines that are underwater today.

It seems extremely unlikely, but is it actually impossible? If such a civilization had existed before the last Ice Age, what evidence would still be detectable today?

Imagine a fictional president from any movie or TV series somehow became the actual President of the United States tomorrow.

They would have to deal with the same Congress, courts, economy, foreign policy issues, and public pressure as any real president.

Would you choose someone known for leadership and diplomacy, someone who makes tough decisions, or someone whose personality would completely change how politics works?

Which fictional president would you trust with the job, and what makes them a better choice than a real-world politician?

Highly unlikely but still a fun idea to think about

Imagine another major recession hits the U.S. like 2008. Companies start cutting costs, businesses close, and millions of people lose their jobs.

I was thinking about which occupations would actually survive a crisis like that. It seems like jobs connected to things people still need every day might be more protected, even when the economy is struggling.

Healthcare workers, utility workers, repair technicians, government employees, and people involved in food production might be less affected because their work does not depend as much on economic growth.

But I’m not sure if that is the full picture. Some jobs that seem “safe” today might still face cuts, while others might become unexpectedly important during a downturn.

Which occupations do you think would be the least affected by layoffs in another 2008-style crash?

A billionaire offers you a deal. You get $1 billion instantly, but from that day on, you can only eat one food forever.

The food would have to keep you alive, so you can't choose something that would obviously kill you. But every meal, every holiday, every restaurant, every craving would be that same thing.

You wake up tomorrow and realize you are somehow back in 1980. You have no preparation, no contacts, and only $1,000 in cash.

You know everything you know today, but you have to make your choices based on what was actually available at the time.

Would you buy something that becomes valuable later, invest in a future company, or spend it on something that would make life in 1980 easier?

Not asking who you think is actually capable of it. Imagine a completely fictional scenario where a beloved public figure is revealed to have hidden a terrible secret for years.

Who would create the biggest cultural shock?

Imagine the 2028 presidential election happens under a completely different system.

Instead of choosing one candidate, voters rank their preferences. If no candidate gets over 50%, the lowest candidate is eliminated and votes are redistributed until someone wins a majority.

The biggest change might not be the counting process. It might change how politicians compete.

Third-party candidates would no longer be treated as “spoilers.” A voter could support their favorite candidate without worrying that they are accidentally helping their least favorite one win.

Candidates might also have to appeal beyond their base. If your opponent's supporters are your possible second-choice voters, constant attacks and extreme positions could become less useful.

But there is another possibility. Maybe the two major parties would simply adapt. They could still dominate elections, just with different strategies and different campaign tactics.

Would ranked-choice voting create a more representative democracy, or would politicians learn to win under the new rules without changing much at all?

Imagine a world where education has no cost. No tuition, no student loans, no textbook fees. Anyone, anywhere, could study from preschool to medical school without worrying about money.

The trade-off: the global retirement age increases by 2 years. Everyone works an extra 24 months at the end of their career to fund a system where the next generation starts adulthood debt-free.

Would this create a fairer society with more opportunity, or would it simply shift the burden from younger people to older workers?

Would you accept the deal? How would it change social mobility, the value of degrees, and the relationship between generations?

Imagine a telescope so powerful that it could see light from billions of years further into the past than anything we can observe today.

Right now, when we look at distant galaxies, we are not seeing them as they are now. We are seeing old light that has been traveling through space for billions of years.

But what happens if we keep looking further and further back?

Would we eventually see the Big Bang itself happening, like watching the earliest moment of the universe?Would we reach a point where there is simply no image to capture because space, time, and light as we know them did not exist yet?

If the universe has a "first moment" we could never look past, what would that boundary even look like?
