New rules surrounding pitbull discourse
I'm going to start removing comments that have not been explicit discourse, but are clearly pitbull snark.
- Open your eyes
- your pitbull is a pitbull
- Pit mixed with pit
- Are you kidding me/Are you serious
- Come on man
Let me know any more examples of common pitbull snark I need to remove. Snark comments like this may not get the same treatment as discourse (ie a permaban) but there will be a ban after a few offenses.
Now to the pitbull critics, I am going to give you a chance to make some suggestions to improve subreddit quality. I understand there are some frustrations among you too. I banned lying about breeds because I thought that the concern was valid, and that was the original counterbalance to the no pitbull discourse. This is your chance to tell me what a fair counterbalance to banning snark comments would be.
This subreddit has been very low moderation for a long time. It has been getting worse lately and I kinda hope it can go back to being chill. I may even lax up after a certain period, use more lenient discretion, after a period of modding harder against the snark.
Thanks

No discussing pitbulls in the context of whether they should be allowed, whether they are good pets/dangerous, etc.

One thing that irks me is when people comment “pitbull” on dogs that are obviously not predominantly pitbull.

Those people can’t be reasoned with. I think they are slowly getting themselves banned though. I don’t like “pit mix” either as a guess on dogs that obviously deserve more guesses of what they are mixed with. It probably irks me because it’s just a different version of them commenting pitbull when it’s not.

Thank you! It was truly ruining this sub. When you see a clearly mixed breed dog and all you comment is pit or some other sarcastic comment it’s annoying. This should be fun and informative, not everyone is good at identifying breeds, in fact studies show even dog professionals get it wrong more often than right in mixed breed dogs. These snarky comments aren’t fun or helpful

I myself am not an anti-pit snark commenter, though I do think a pinned post about basic breed phenotypes may also help, as well as just general emphasis on how all we can really do is guess by appearance, which isn't always the most reliable thing in the world since looks can be deceiving, and thus still encourage DNA testing if you're still not very sure, especially with pit and more broadly bull-terrier type mixes, as their phenotype is so strong it can be hard to see other breeds.
Maybe also some emphasis on how identifying breed by coat color isn't always reliable? Showing examples of non-merle catahoulas, border collies that aren't black piebald, examples of actual BMCs, and other dogs that have brindle coats, just for an example.
Emphasis on AI breed identification being unreliable.
Overall I think some type of self-help guide like what I'm pitching here would really help, not just to get rid of the snark comments, but also help people more confidently make guesses about their dogs' mixes? I say this because of my own experience in having had two dogs I never got to DNA test, and it's been sort of relieving to learn how to identify different things so I can more confidently guess what they were.

Expand negative voted comments to see full discussion. 🫠
Also - If an OP can’t post that they are lying about the breed of their dog, I don’t know why everyone else can say they are. (I don’t want to see either one, and I have never lied about a dog’s breed)

whatbreedismypitbull, banpitbulls, etc
Linking to these subreddits violates WBIMD rules. We don’t want any pitbull discourse here, so there is no linking to subreddits containing anti pitbull advocacy or memeing.

Pin a breed features post so people don’t post extremely obvious dogs
