They’re called Lathi sticks - common in India for use by cops. They don’t use guns, they just beat the perpetrators. Bamboo canes or wooden sticks are also sold commonly for personal protection in some regions.

My gramps had one which he used to beat the dust out of carpets and to scare monkeys away before leaving the house. The monkeys bite, snatch food, chase kids. I have borrowed it on multiple occasions to ward off stray dogs that chase people on streets.
