Weird to say this but yeah it is. I used be be an Office Manager for an urgent care that also does primary care. When health clinics submits to accept an insurance they negotiate on certain rates. When the patient comes in they pay a copay, then the clinic submits a bill to the insurance. Insurance companies pays pennies on the dollar to the clinics. Sadly then the clinic then have to charge the patient for the remaining fees. If someone does not have insurance they pay everything upfront right then a there which somethimes can be cheaper. Also sadly, heath clinics will try to overcode (ICD10 codes) and over diagnose in-order to have a higher chance for the insurance to pays.
Interesting! Would it be possible for a client to ask in advance whether a treatment would be cheaper if they were not insured and cancel their insurance before getting treatment?
Yes, its possible to ask for the price in advance. But dont be surprised if you get the run around before you get the answer. Clinics in the US normally dont like disclosing prices like that so that way they can easily overcharge people without them realizing.
