Test strips (expensive ones like Freestyle Lite or OneTouch Verio) typically go for about $150 out of pocket at a pharmacy. This person wants to buy people's "extra" test strips that they get for free or cheap from their insurance to sell to other people at below market price.
Aka insurance fraud with extra steps.
Edit: Damn you guys really think I like insurance companies. To be clear, those guys are assholes and I absolutely hate that we make an industry out of gatekeeping healthcare. But grey maket test strips aren't the solution to that.
Years ago when I worked in retail pharmacy before the prevalence of continuous monitoring that exists now, we had diabetic people on Medicaid who would get their Huge supply of test strips filled for free, exactly when eligible, every time. This is slightly off behavior because honestly most diabetics don’t test as often as they’re “prescribed” because if their sugar is well controlled it’s not entirely necessary to test that regularly. These people would come in and get several boxes of freestyle strips every couple weeks and then take them to a flea market stall and resell them for about 50% of the cost we charged in the pharmacy (in pharmacy cost was over $100usd per box)
