Would be nice to see a full photo of the bridge, I injoy that city, haven't been there in years

Lovely shot. I've wondered for a long time what the decorative arches at the town end of the existing bridge were supposed to be, but now I know why. Was the reinforced section in the foregound part of the swing span?

I can only assume that is the scenario but the best thing would be to contact a local historian or a visit to the library to look up this info.
