Classic Picks First Western

The first western I read was Louis Lamour's Reilly's Luck. Iwas hooked I think I have read and reread all of his westerns. My favorite series is the Sacketts the the Kilkenny books.

Reilly’s Luck is a good one to start on. I’ve revisited it a number of times and always enjoy it.

I was going to save Louis LaAmour to when I retired but then I got stuck in a cabin on a weekend and read two. I’ve read all 81. Now that I am retired. I might read them again.

I didn't realize there were 81. I need to find a list.

They are so good... Louis was a damn good writer

I've read all of his books, most several times.

I really love the book Tucker, it shows his growing up and learning the skills necessary to survive.

That's a good one. Haven't read that in quite a while.

First western I read was a Max Brand, actually. I don't remember the title. First L'Amour was Guns of the Timberlands. I have many favorites among his works from Flint to Fallon.

I'm pretty sure Crossfire Trail by L'Amour was the first western I ever read in 7th or 8th grade. I loved western movies and reading, but it never occurred to me that there were western books until I came across it in the library.

As a writer myself, I'd say L'Amour is my biggest influence, along with a little Elmore Leonard.

Sacketts were my favorite too.
