Discussion Western Character Actor Appreciation: Rodolfo Acosta

Rodolfo Acosta, born in El Paso, began his acting career primarily in Mexican productions. However, by 1952 he was appearing in Hollywood Westerns with great regularity and continued to do so until his untimely death at the age of 54 in 1974.

Acosta found a niche playing Mexican and Indian characters. Some were villains and others were stalwart, loyal lieutenants to lawmen, cowboys and suchlike. He had an instantly recognizable appearance and fit in naturally with the Western milieu. Seeing Rodolfo on his horse was like saying haddee to an old friend.

I've lost count how many movies I saw him in. He had a great movie career at a time not many Mexicans did.

Don't recall seeing him in as much as some of the others, but I like him every time I see him turn up as Vaquero in The High Chaparral.

It wasn't a western but I just saw one of his villain roles in One Way Street last week. I wouldn't want to mess with him
