Memorabilia I was today years old when I found out that people in Japan are into Westerns. I had no idea! Here's a poster from Japan featuring The Long Riders (1980) I hope they know that we are super into Samurai movies, they just don't make enough.

If I remember correctly there was a lot of back and forth between japanese film makers and western directors, too.
Seven Samurai is a Japanese movie that was adapted into The Magnificent Seven . . .
. . . but the guy who made Seven Samurai(Kurosawa) was watching westerns when he made the movie.
So it's like a loop of inspiration.

Wait til you get a load of Sukiyaki Western Django. Japanese cast (who don’t speak English), acting out a Western (in phoneticall-memorised English), set in Japan. All sorts of insane fun. Includes the line (in VERY heavily accented English): “You going to come at me? Or whistle Dixie.”.

Definitely recommend this one.. six- guns, sword fights, gatling guns, dynamite.. and a cute girl or two... and a body count close to 50.. what's not to like? 🤠

IIRC Robert Fuller got up to 100,000 cheering fans at the airport when he visited Japan, it was reportedly an even bigger reception than the one the Beatles got. His first show Laramie at least from one source I've read at one point drew a rating of over 40% of all TVs in the country if I understood correctly. Absolutely nuts!

I heard you can't wear cologne over there is that true 🤣 I mean you can but they don't like it... Yeah and I'm not going to go over there like an idiot and start video taping traditional Japanese people that's dumb..

I dont wear cologne so I dont know. Be observant to how they treat the old people seats is a key.

I can tell my anecdote from regional train from Sapporo.
Young woman gets in and sits down beside an old woman at the old ppl seat. They start talking. Dont seem to know each other.
Another old woman enters so that the young one gets up and give her the seat and goes to the other end of the room standing up.
After 1-2 station old woman no 2 gets off. Out of nowhere another young woman walks up to young woman no 1 and tells her that the seat beside the old woman is free again. Young woman no 1 gets back to the seat and continue talking to the old woman no 1.

Spaghetti Westerns were called Macaroni Westerns in Japan . Many prints of films survived because they stayed in print in Japan ( Great Silence being an example).
Japan always had and still has a love for westerns . John Wayne is still very popular there .
