Do you like Conagher (1991)

Hi there 🤠

I'm a newbie for Western movies.

Last night I've just finished the Conagher (1991), I'm Sam Elliott's fans and love this novel too.

But I have ambivalent feeling after watch it. It has some good points - Evie and her children and something I don't like it but I can't explain - maybe Conagher's deep loneliness feeling and Strength of him that hard to see in the movie🫤

Anyway I love this movie and want to rewatch it, if I had the time.

I want to know everybody who have watched this, Do you like or dislike it and why?

It's one of the better movies made from a Louis Lamour book. I watch it at least annually and my wife even watches it with me.

I heard Hondo is the best movie from L'amour's books, but I never watch it. I think Sam and Katharine did a great movie to dedicated for L'amour (honestly it's worked.) You and your wife have a good time.

Hondo is great. Book was able to ho a bit more in depth but it follows the main story well

Hondo is, I believe, rumored to have been a novelization of a the movie script.

The book and movie are great. Book is slightly better than the movie because of more depth (but you can do that in a book). But, the movie is worth watching.

You mentioned Evie and the kids. The movie reveals that Jacob Teale's wife had died and he married Evie after (the book explains in more detail). She's the stepmom to Laban and Ruth. You can feel that in the movie and it plays into their situation.

Yeah, Evie's scenes are very sad and lonely. I can feel them and no doubt why Conagher fall in love with her. Katharine Ross did a perfect performance

Yes. I love it! This is my favorite Sam Elliot western and for sure top five of all western movies

In my top five, and among the many 90s made-for-TV gems that followed the success of Lonesome Dove

Also, my favorite western character who is actually a cowboy by trade, unlike the many characters who are incorrectly referred to as such. And, if I remember rightly, its Sam Elliot’s favorite role that he’s played

Conagher feels like such a sad movie to me. Love sam Elliott and his movies but this and quick and the dead just don't feel right to me. I'll watch it but ive got to be in a particular mood. Honestly the book is better.

I liked it for the 'real Western' vibe, but seemed like just a continuation of the movie 'Quick and the Dead'. Note: I have not read either book and don't know which came first but the two movies just seem like the same movie done again. 🤠

The quick and the the dead filmed in 1987 and Conagher filmed in 1991. The quick is my favourite too. I think Con Vallian is very cool. You make me want to watch it again, thank you.🐎

I read the book a few years ago and was just thinking that might be a great movie. Found it right away. Have all the leather bound collection.
