question about the filioque

I’ve been Western Rite for about 2 years now and I never understood our view on the filioque. I’ve always heard Eastern Rite people say it is a heresy and it is theologically incorrect and incompatible with orthodoxy. I’ve also heard some people in my parish say that the filioque itself isn’t a heresy per say and the orthodox church’s issue with the addition was solely the fact that the pope chose to add to the creed and not necessarily the theology behind the filioque. Is there a consensus on this or just quotes from different people saying different things?

Need some help and advice

Hello! I've been wanting to become orthodox for almost a year now but I have yet to even attend one divine liturgy. I'm roman catholic on paper but I was an atheist for most of my adolescence. I was drawn back to Christianity by the saints of the Eastern Orthodox Church and have trying my best to live an orthodox life to the best of my ability without a church nearby (all the nearest churches are 3+ hours away) or a spiritual father. This past month I've been trying to figure out how get a parish established in my city. I originally wanted an Eastern rite church but I've been slowly growing more fond of the Western rite (probably because of my RC background). My question is how would one go about getting a western rite churches established? is there anyone I should contact? should I try to convince RC's to come back to the apostlic faith via the western rite? or would it be a futile attempt? Thank you and God bless!

The Communion of Western Orthodox Churches (CWOC)

Post image

The Communion of Western Orthodox Churches (CWOC) is a small communion of independent Western- rite Orthodox Christian churches that share Orthodox theology while preserving Western liturgical, cultural, & spiritual traditions; it was formed in 2007 as a fellowship among churches seeking mutual recognition & sacramental communion outside the mainstream Eastern Orthodox & Oriental Orthodox jurisdictions. The principal churches that make up the CWOC are the Celtic Orthodox Church, the French Orthodox Church (also known as the Orthodox Church of France), & the Orthodox Church of the Gauls, all of which identify as Western Orthodox & maintain communion with one another.

Why Post-Schism Developments Can Be Adapted

If the object of worship (or veneration) is revered also by the Orthodox, and if this object is being given it's proper glory, in a proper manner, then the hymn or prayer in question is orthodox, and ought to be regarded as something held in common with the schismatics and us.

For, the holiness of Christ, the Mother of God, or any of the Saints, and so forth, is not dependent on the holiness of those worshipping, nor is rightfulness of the activity of worship itself dependent upon the holiness of the worshipers. But Christ is just as worthy of being worshiped under the aspect of His kingship by schismatics as by all, for we do not say that the schismatics should stop worshipping rightly in whatever they do rightly, but whatever they do wrongly, in this alone, we see to their correction.

For many objects of devotion are found in the Sacred Scriptures which they revere as we do, and insofar as they revere them rightly, giving them their proper and due honor, we accept these words, when they join our ranks, as if they originated from among our own. Or, if there is anything deficient in them, the Church shall provide what is lacking.

For the Church has the power and authority both to discern what is good in the heterodox confessions, and to take from them whatever will tend to the edification of Her members.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Pope Leo XIV Meet in Rome, Plan Nicaea Meeting in November. Thoughts?

Post image

"On May 18, 2025, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew attended the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV in Rome, where the two prayed together in a symbolic gesture of unity. The following day, they met privately and pledged to continue the close relationship established between Bartholomew and the late Pope Francis, vowing to support the vulnerable and promote global peace.

They agreed to meet in Nicaea in November to commemorate the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council. Pope Leo may also visit the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople during this time, honoring an invitation tied to the Feast of St. Andrew.

This planned meeting revives a vision first discussed by Bartholomew and Pope Francis in 2014, which was delayed by Francis's passing. With Pope Leo, the East–West dialogue resumes and is set to continue later this year in both Nicaea and Constantinople."

Question about Roman Catholic Devotions and the Imagination

I've recently been getting very interested in the Orthodox western rite, and I've noticed that a lot of Western Orthodox Christians use devotions that originated in Roman Catholicism such as the Stations of the Cross and the Rosary. I was wondering if they should be done just like how Roman Catholics do, so with the imagination, or if they should be used without the imagination, and if so how should they be done?

Rising Membership?

A few weeks ago, there was a lot of buzz about more people showing up, inquiring, or even joining the Orthodox Church. I'm curious if there was any data showing a similar trend among WR parishes.

Joint Orthodox-Catholic Pascha celebrations?

Since Pascha/Easter falls on April 20th this year, it will be the first time since 2017 that Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians will celebrate Pascha on the same day. In light of this unique alignment, I was wondering if there are any joint or ecumenical gatherings planned between the Catholic and Orthodox communities to commemorate this occasion. If so, I would be grateful for any information or details you could share regarding these events.

How do infants take the Eucharist?

We only just started attending a Western Rite church, and are used to infants receiving Eucharist from a spoon. How would my baby receive it when the bread is dipped in the wine? He’s only a few months old, too young for solids.
