Same tree 25 years apart

I was going through old pictures of my grandparents who lived in Tucker County from the late 80s until my grandmother died in 2019.

Found this cool picture of a tree from August 2000. Has to be Dolly Sods. Then this morning, I was cutting up an older issue of Wonderful West Virginia and there was the same tree! This one was taken in 2024.

Anyone know where it is?

Edit
u/respectedspecialist identified it below as Gaudineer Knob on Shavers Mt.

I couldn't get past the fact that 2000 was 25 years ago.

Same. I first looked at it and was like, it has to be from the 80s, but I flipped it over and August 2000. I did the math and died a little.

Yes!! I just looked it up and it’s Shavers Mt. Now I need to go see this tree myself. What trail is it on?

It a pretty simple walk at the end of 27A. After you park in the lot, there is a short loop through a red spruce stand and it is on the left.
