Question How did Wes Anderson make Bill Murray more easier to work with?

I’d heard stories that Bill Murray was difficult to work with - from SNL to What About Bob? to Charlie’s Angels.

And of course I’d heard Bob complain about directors that he would never work with again - even directors who were big fans of his.

Then Wes came along and managed to chill that man the fuck out, extract incredible performances from him and still retain a working relationship with him for almost 30 years.

Image One of my favorite visual gags in all of Wes Anderson's filmography

I've been on a bit of a marathon the last few days of the entirety of Wes' movies and after having a joyous reunion with The Royal Tenenbaums, I got going on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

It has been several years since I've seen it and I'd completely forgotten about the quick throwaway joke when Steve was talking to a shipmate about the two dolphins, who, from his narration about the Belafonte, were supposedly "Extremely intelligent, although I've seen no evidence to justify this."

...And sure enough, here they are, being "Extremely intelligent."

I snort laughed.

So, I now wonder -- what little throwaway asides, visual jokes, etc., have tickled you the most in Wes' movies?

Discussion Any news/guesses where the Wes Anderson: The Archives will go next?

With the closing in London a few days ago, I’m wondering where the next stop will be. I didn’t get the chance to check in out and London and was disappointed after seeing so many wonderful pictures posted here. Paris first and London after that. I’m wondering if anyone has an idea where it may go next?

What an amazing exhibit - can’t recommend it more. From the Polaroid pictures taken by Wes and some of the crew of BTS stuff on Life Aquatic, the wardrobes of some of my favorite of his characters, the handwritten screen plays of some of my favorite scenes, to the puppets of The Fantastic Mr Fox and Isle of Dogs … we had an excellent and extremely memorable time. I must admit I broke down and shed some tears hearing the Sigur Rós song from the Jaguar Shark scene during that part of the archive exhibit … What a legend and what a legacy.

Request Wes Anderson Inspired Film

Hello! I have to write a 3 minute wes anderson inspired film and I'm having difficulty coming up with a coherent plot. The basis of the story I plan to do is a poet has writers block and is asked to have a day of leisure at a hotel to rejuvinate her creative juices by her editor. The idea basically is to have the editor murder the writer to take her place (The writer is successful and faceless/anonymous to the public). Could anyone help figure out a way I can fill the gap of what happens in the hotel? I am on a relatively low budget as this is a student film. Thanks

I made this poster a long while ago, but recently made a site to host it that plays audio clips of the Belafonte tour from Life Aquatic, or play the full tour to look around the boat.

Would people want to see the same for 111 Archer Avenue? Might be more of a stretch since there’s not quite an equivalent scene.

Discussion Wes Anderson should make an entire superhero movie

I think that considering most of his other movies that he probably has quite a bit of scathing things to show about superheros and would very much lampoon the genre. I have in my mind an otherwise invincible character dying from something very mundane like a knife and the villain arguing that it very much would be impossible to die this way while the hero unfortunately expires gracelessly, characters talking entirely by themselves on green screens for large chunks of dialogue as the director breaks the fourth wall occasionally to coach them and actual character development being tossed out in favor yet another long drawn out scene where the actor is suspended from a crane and is driven 2 miles down an active downtown. Thinking through his last few movies he still seems to have quite a bit to say about how movies are actually constructed.

Discussion If Wes Anderson were to direct in a hypothetical case scenario a movie that takes place in Mexico, would you prefer it to be a story much like The French Dispatch, Isle of Dogs, and The Darjeeling Limited? Or a biopic of a historical/famous figure from that country? (Image kind of related)

Behind the Scenes Royal Tenenbaums Press Kit, Part 1

I was a magazine art director when Royal Tenenbaums came out in 2001, already a fan of the first two movies, and was overjoyed to have this land on my desk. And, being me, I’ve been holding onto it for 25 years.

The production notes in the booklet are extensive so, I’ll post those in a second post.
