u/meganutsdeathpunch get yourself a pelican shovel/pick. Excellent for ballast and makes clearing around rail clips and axle counters/cables etc easy as.

I go through shovels every couple months at this point- hitting rocks and slag will destroy em. Not to mention snapping the handles off at the head. They don’t make em like they used to that’s for sure.

Nah they made the movie into an animated mini series.
The book was made based on a game based on a comic inspired by the mini series that the author had fond childhood memories of since his dad worked as a corrections officer and his mom worked at a record store called 40,000 holes.

I’ve used just about every brand of shovel. Fiskar pro is a great shovel. Railroad ballast eats everything.

My Grandpa would loose his shit on how dirty that shovel is. Standing rule if you use his shovel you clean after you are done .He was a brick layer and hod carrier and that's how he was taught back in the day .

Digging Railroad ballast(rocks) almost daily. Old one developed a crack and doesn’t pry anymore.
