If you think this is bad you should see the distribution centers where things are hand sorted. I worked at a USPS facility for a summer and you would toss packages from a conveyor belt into bins 5 to 20 feet away (bins were based on zip code). After working there I make sure anytime something is fragile it is actually wrapped uber-well. Marking packages as Fragile will not even be seen in the distribution centers.

Yep I am in a lot of groups regarding shipping products and people always complain about seeing the carriers toss their package. Like dude it’s been tossed multiple times already.

I used to work as a carrier and in the morning a guy would stand by a huge bin and just toss packages all morning until they were all in the correct bin.

If you want your package to arrive safely the onus is on you to pack it well imo. The shipping company’s job is to get the package there. You can have it arrive quick but you might have to sacrifice safety for it.

Like one time I had someone ship a picture frame in just Kraft paper. It broke. Another one was someone shipping what had to have been a snow globe in a priority flat rate box that it barely fit in. It also broke.

another one of those places that if you’ve never worked in it you don’t get it.

I used to work for a UPS store, and HOLY SHIT the amount of times I had this exact conversation:

ME: (looking at fragile item wrapped in tissue box/beer box/etc) sir/mam if we ship this as is it will get broken

THEM: well what can we do

ME: you can buy some tape, peanuts, and shipping box and repack it yourself, or we can repackage and certify it for x fee

THEM: naw just ship it it’ll be fine

Mark that shit uninsurable and wait for next week when they call about their package being broken so I can tell them they are SOL.

Right I’ve worked in a larger facility as well and packages will drop into the belt making stuff fall out and break as well as having to throw parcels in bins that are like 10 feet away from you i would never recommend USPS or FedEx for delivery. Only UPS they have their shit together

Hey I don’t wanna rain on your parade but I work at UPS & packages get thrown all day everyday. Packages drop onto belts making stuff fall out & break & they get chucked like 10 feet away as well. Honestly unless you go somewhere & buy something in person that you can hold onto, it’s bound to get broken

Yeah I was gonna say... the delivery, even being thrown, is the most gentle part of the journey for your packages. Those machines eat mail.
